# Privacy Policy for Internet Planetarium
**Effective date: September 4, 2026**
Internet Planetarium replaces Chrome's New Tab page with an interactive universe of websites. This policy explains what information the extension handles and how it is used.
## Information the extension handles
Internet Planetarium may handle the following information:
- **Browsing history, with your permission:** website URLs and domains, page titles, visit counts, visit times, and related navigation metadata from up to the previous 120 days.
- **Bookmarks, with your permission:** bookmark URLs, titles, dates, and folder paths.
- **Information you provide:** manually added website domains, appearance and navigation preferences, and search queries.
- **Generated information:** planet names, positions, sizes, categories, and other universe data derived on your device from the information above.
History and bookmark access are optional. Chrome displays a permission prompt before the extension receives either type of information.
## How information is used
The extension uses this information only to:
- create, categorize, display, and refresh your website planetarium;
- personalize planet relevance, size, and grouping;
- remember your settings and onboarding state;
- display website icons using Chrome's local Favicon API;
- perform a search when you explicitly choose a web-search result; and
- open a website when you select its planet.
## Storage and processing
Browsing history and bookmark information are processed locally in the extension. Generated universe data, manually added domains, and preferences are stored locally on your device using `chrome.storage.local`.
Internet Planetarium does not operate a server that receives this information. It does not use analytics or advertising services.
## Sharing and transfers
Internet Planetarium does not sell user data. It does not send browsing history, bookmarks, generated universe data, or preferences to the developer or to analytics or advertising providers.
When you explicitly perform a web search, Chrome sends the query to your configured default search provider under that provider's privacy policy. When you select a planet, Chrome navigates to that website in the normal way, and the destination website may receive standard browser request information under its own privacy policy.
## Retention and deletion
Generated universe data and preferences remain in local extension storage until you clear them or uninstall the extension. You can revoke optional history access and clear generated universe data from the extension's settings. You can manage bookmark permission through Chrome. Uninstalling Internet Planetarium removes its local extension storage according to Chrome's behavior.
## Security
Internet Planetarium keeps its executable code inside the installed extension package and does not download or execute remote code. Information received from Chrome APIs is used only to provide the extension's stated functionality.
## Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Internet Planetarium's use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
## Changes to this policy
If the extension's information practices change, this policy and the Chrome Web Store disclosures will be updated before the changed behavior is released.
