International Symposium on ICT in Medicine and Public Health: Perspectives from AI and Cognitive Science
Dates: 15 August 2019 (public portion of symposium)
Venue: Cartesium, University of Bremen (Map)
Organizing Partners: Bremen Spatial Cognition Center, University of Bremen; Mahidol University; Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg Inst. for Advanced Study
Articles about the potential benefits and dangers of AI appear in the press on a regular basis these days. The public is rightly increasingly concerned about the use of AI to automate decision making, especially in life critical situations. The first day of this symposium, which is open to the public, will consist of talks designed to lead to a more informed debate on this topic. Medical practitioners will discuss the challenges they face and the opportunities they see for the use of information technology to address these. Computer scientists and cognitive scientists will discuss technologies that have the potential to address the medical problems and the challenges in realizing this potential. In the afternoon, a poster and demo session will allow participants to interact in a relaxed atmosphere and obtain hands-on experience with the technologies.
The symposium will focus broadly on applications of Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science in design of systems for surgical training and surgical support, and the integration of novel sensor technologies with AI techniques for modeling of infectious disease. Specific topics include: Intelligent virtual environments for surgical training (cardiac surgery, orthopedic surgery, dental surgery), surgical navigation systems, spatial cognition in surgery, virtual environments for teaching of anatomy, use of novel data sources for modeling transmission of vector-borne disease, modeling spatial aspects of disease transmission, and novel sensors for collecting data relevant to disease transmission.
The language of the symposium is English.
To register to take part in the symposium, send an email by August 4 to kranz@uni-bremen.de. Please provide your name and brief information about your interest in the symposium.
