Program Notes:

Interlocking Duos contrasts between fast non-pitched rhythmic percussion versus soft lyrical melody that the marimba plays. Eventually the faster rhythmic sections overtake the more lyrical sections and the two ideas combine. The piece ends with the fast rhythmic section’s rhythm preserved by utilizing softer more delicate sounds from the lyrical section. Throughout the work, the four percussionists work together in pairs of two to "interlock" with each other and create two larger rhythms.
