We aim to:

Provide a unique experience to schools that have yet or haven’t to participate in such programs. This is because these kinds of programs (debate activities) are often considered as “posh” events and are mostly organized in private schools or by schools in generally privileged neighborhoods. This conference is organized by and aims to mainly attract public schools from the city center of Athens or the surrounding areas, offering a first chance to many students to start and be familiar with debating and public speaking skills.

Encourage learning among high school and middle school students. Programs like ours offer an exceptional chance to high school and middle school students to be informed about the state of the world and the problems we are currently facing as a society. Although currently it is easier to be informed about world events than in the past, and generally information travels faster than ever before, this program offers a unique chance for delegates to be thoroughly informed and to discuss various topics with their peers,  depending on the committee they have chosen.

Offer a place to promote debate and its associated skills. It is often said that great actors can convince you, that they are anyone, that they are feeling despondent, angry, or happy, regardless of what they are actually thinking. Great orators should have the exact same ability. Debating as an activity means that you may have to support positions that you don’t completely agree with or that you even find abhorrent. However, if you can understand, even in part, a position that you oppose, you can critique it more effectively and ultimately learn more from the experience.

Research and discuss the issues we are facing. Although we simulate the activities of the Organization of the United Nations, we do not necessarily consider its conduct effective. As evidenced by the diversity of topics we have selected, the world is trying to solve a wide variety of world issues that - most of the time- have yet to be resolved. But, due to the fact that our world still faces wars, starvation, extreme economic inequality, imperialism, and discrimination, we urge all delegates to look critically at the present situation of the world and of our country and with a reinvigorated interest, participate in the process to change it.

Sow the seeds for something greater. Though the scope of this event is limited by the fact it is the first debate-related activity organized by our schools, we aim for this conference to be the beginning of something greater. We hope that, in the years to come, similar activities of a grander scale can emerge and we can be there for all aspiring orators and debate-enthusiasts.
