I just installed a new hard drive with a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 64-bit downloaded from Microsoft's website and did the gazillion updates. All's well except for audio over HDMI. The present driver with the fresh install is "Microsoft Driver Version 6.3.9600.16384". I reinstalled the old hard drive, HDMI audio works again. The driver it uses is "Intel Display-Audio Driver Version 6.14.0.3097". I swapped the new hard drive back in and downloaded that Intel driver from a dodgy-looking website. All was well with HDMI but the machine took a while to shut down, even after several reboots. It seems like I downloaded something fishy. I wiped the hard drive and did another clean install.

I'm attempting to install Windows 10 IOT Enterprise LTSC 2019 on a NUC12WSKi3. I've previously installed this OS on a NUC10i3FNKN with no issues. I've been completely unsuccessful getting a working driver for the Intel High Definition Audio which stays in Device Manager in Other. Because of this, when connected to a TV using HDMI, Windows says there are no audio output devices available and won't do audio. I've verified that connecting to the same TV with the same HDMI cable using the previous model works fine. I've tried installing only the latest graphics driver with and without the ARC utility, tried installing only the chipset drivers and the graphics driver, tried re-installing and clean installing the graphics driver, and tried installing all of the drivers. Nothing works. Out of desperation I tried installing Windows 11 and after installing only the graphics driver it did support audio over HDMI. Unfortunately, moving to Windows 11 while on the radar is not a move I would like to make.

I've attached the requested report. This is with an install of Windows LTSC 2019 with only the graphics, wifi, chipset, and realtek audio drivers installed. The NUC was also connected to the TV I've been using for testing using HDMI.

We checked all the information, and the driver Intel Graphics DCH Driver for Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11* for Intel NUC 12 Pro Kits & Mini PCs - NUC12WS should work for your model and operating system, please download it.

The installer recognized that I had already installed that driver, so I went ahead and selected a clean install and clicked Repair. When that didn't work, I followed your instructions for manually doing a clean install. In addition to uninstalling the Intel display adapter, I uninstalled the Intel High Definition Audio. For that one, I wasn't given the option to delete the drivers since Windows says the drivers for that device were not installed. I confirmed after this that Device Manager was showing the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter and scanning for hardware changes did not bring back the Intel High Definition Audio device. After a restart, I installed the graphics driver and checked the box for a clean install. After installing the drivers, the Intel High Definition Audio came back and was still not working with no drivers found for it.

The Intel HD Graphics zip file contains two folders under the 'DisplayAudio' folder. One is entitled "6.16" and the other is "8.20". The 8.20 version is automatically chosen and installed (the Intel Display Audio properties states version 8.20.0.541). I just discovered that when I force the "6.16" .inf file to install, the missing resolution is listed. While installing the 6.16 version, an "Update Driver Warning" is displayed stating the driver is not recommended.

The 24 bit, 192000 Hz audio resolution is not listed under my AVR HDMI device in Windows 8.1 when the newest audio driver version 8.20.2.541 is used. However that resolution does show up when I use audio driver version 6.16.0.3180, which seems to be the proper driver for Windows 7. But I have to force install ver. 6.16.0.3180 and ignore a warning against its installation.

@ket The intel control center is control panel? It seems the same to me.

Also if you can found an opengl workaround would be excellent.

It is well known that the driver in windows10-11 dont install the opengl.

*the packet works also at windows 11 i tested it.

Both gpu and hd audio installed correctly as the opencl.

The internal microphone had also stopped working after the above, including the mute button (fn F10), and including the disappearance of the microphone mute option on the right-click menu for the tray speaker icon. I resolved that by uninstalling "Conexant ISST Audio" in Control Panel/Pregrams and features, rebooting, and then, in Device Manager, re-installing the same drivers on the now unconfigured device via "Search automatically". The HDMI audio hiccups remain even after a BIOS update to v1.15A.

Well. That was an adventure. I tried that Conexant driver package, which I had tried before, and ended up in a far worse state than when I started. I eventually uninstalled every single related device and its drivers and re-installed using "Search automatically". This might take several passes on some devices to remove multiple (older) driver versions. I would suggest checking (and installing/re-installing) in the order shown below, and reboot after each install or de-install. A trip or two through the troubleshooter may also be needed.

Here is the stack I've ended up with. Except for the BIOS, these are all retrieved from Microsoft. I've had no succes with any of the HP-supplied drivers.

Speaker and microphone muting and unmuting work. Built-in and HDMI speakers work, but HDMI only after a reboot. In iTunes, I can play an album and then play another album as long as I do not pause the first. If I pause, there is no way to get HDMI audio going again. Headphones and other apps I'll save for when this is all fully working.

[Update: No problems with built-in speaker or headphones with any application. The problem is only with HDMI (Intel Display Audio), which is installed along with the display adapter driver. So, it doesn't seem that Conexant drivers have anything to do with it. There is a newer pair of display/audio drivers on the Intel driver download site, but won't install because they "have not been qualified" on this system.]

Windows 11 audio driver or Windows 11 sound driver is a type of computer hardware/firmware driver necessary for audio devices to work properly in the Win11 operating system. Only with those drivers, can you hear sound from your PC.

The latest Realtek audio driver windows 11 for Intel was released on January 11, 2022. Its version is 6.0.9285.1. This Intel Realtek HD audio driver for Windows 11 is for a 3.5mm audio jack and can be installed on the 11th generation Intel NUC11PHKi7C and NUC11PHKi7CAA. Its size is 378.6 MB.

If you find it complex or confusing to manually download Windows 11 sound driver, you can rely on a professional 3rd party program to do that. For example, you may find it time-consuming to find out your motherboard type and suitable audio driver. Even if you get to know what which driver you need, you may fall into a situation to be confused that which version or edition of the driver is the correct one.

We've upgraded to Windows 10 and have about 10 late 2012 mac mini classroom computers with HDMI. In OS X the HDMI Audio works no problem, however in windows it doesn't even see it as an option. I've tried installing a few different version of the Intel Display Audio driver, but nothing seems to work. Has anyone else had this issue or gotten it work?

Even after checking the box to show hidden devices I don't see HDMI listed in device manager under audio inputs. Thats why I'm thinking its the intel driver not talking to the device. I have several late 2014 mac mini's where this works fine on the same HDMI audio setup.
