Christa Flores, 2016
The theory of constructionism views knowledge as being constructed instead of created (Andrews, 2012). The notion of social constructionism emerged from a social understanding of the world and the importance of focusing on the social aspect of knowledge.
The term constructionism can be dissected into the action of 'to construct' and 'to make.'
"Constructionism assumes not only Piaget’s constructivism, but also Friere’s ideas on self-determination and Papert’s prediction about the role of technology to foster a more innovative and truly democratic society" (Flores, 2016, para. 4).
