MAT 512: Algebra for teachers-- Spring 2025

• Description: Linear algebra, the algebra of polynomials, algebraic properties of the complex numbers, number fields, solutions of equations. Mathematical topics integrate the study of the historical development of algebra, including contributions from diverse cultures.

• Textbook: Integers, Polynomials, and Rings: A Course in Algebra by Ronald S. Irving

• Exams: Three problem-solving exams

Midterm 1: Mar. 12th (tentative)

Final: May 14th, 5:30pm – 8:00pm

• Homework: 1) Weekly problem-solving assignments and 2) Lesson plan assignments (one assignment throughout the semester)

• Final course grade will be determined by a weighted average of below
