Description: Linear algebra, the algebra of polynomials, algebraic properties of the complex numbers, number fields, solutions of equations. Mathematical topics integrate the study of the historical development of algebra, including contributions from diverse cultures.
Textbook: Integers, Polynomials, and Rings: A Course in Algebra by Ronald S. Irving
Exams: Three problem-solving exams
Midterm 1: Feb. 28th
Midterm 2: Apr. 8th
Final: May 13th, 5:30pm – 8:00pm
Homework: 1) Weekly problem-solving assignments and 2) Lesson plan assignments (two assignments throughout the semester)
Final course grade will be determined by a weighted average of below
Assignments 30%
Midterm Exams 40% (20% each)
Final Exam 30%
