Universal Design for Learning Assignnment - EDIT 750 with Dr. Winslow
Dr. Winslow's EDIT 750 UDL Assignment:
"Universal design for learning (UDL) is an emerging pedagogical philosophy that uses technology to integrate choice and enhance engagement in the instructional process to accommodate how students learn in different ways. A core principle of UDL is that digital instructional content must be accessible to all students, including those with learning disabilities. The focus of this module will be on best practices in eLearning development that align with international standards for accessibility." - Dr. Winslow
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1) Define universal design and how it relates to digital accessibility for eLearning developers.
2) Identify best development practices that improve learner ability to perceive digital content.
3) Identify best development practices that improve learner ability to operate eLearning interfaces.
4) Identify best development practices that improve learner ability to understand eLearning content.
Your assignment for this module is to submit an interim report on the progress of your final project for this course. The report does not need to be exhaustive, but the following criteria need to be addressed:
1) What have you completed thus far and what are your next steps in the development process?
2) Per the project assessment rubric, in what areas would your project rate strongest right now? Weakest?
3) Considering the WCAG guidelines presented in this module, how accessible is your draft project right now, and what specific steps will you take to improve its accessibility?
Universal Design for Learning Response:
My Response:
1) What have you completed thus far and what are your next steps in the development process?
I have decided to use the Microlearning Safety Course that I designed for CDL drivers as my final project. I have finished the development of this Microlearning Safety Course and published it through Amazon’s Web Services (AWS).

There are 5 Learning Outcomes in this Microlearning Safety Course:
1-Identify potential safety hazards in garbage collection environments.
2- Implement basic safety precautions to mitigate risks.
3- Demonstrate an understanding of safety guidelines for efficient and safe garbage collection.
4- Apply preventive measures to minimize accidents and injuries.
5- Evaluate your understanding of key safety concepts through a brief Knowledge Check (matching game).
2)Per the project assessment rubric, in what areas would your project rate strongest right now? Weakest?
Strongest:
I have an active URL.
More than three MLOs
Home Screen
Learning objects exhibit creative applications of multimedia design
CRAP principles applied
Creative navigation and interactions
Weakest:
I need to update a detailed and itemized Change log.
I only have one assessment interaction right now.
3) Considering the WCAG guidelines presented in this module, how accessible is your draft project right now, and what specific steps will you take to improve its accessibility?
I have designed this e-learning for usability with concise, descriptive text.
I have ordered objects and text with learners in mind.
Used an infinite scroll for easy navigation
I used high-contrast colors
