If you’re just starting, and you have a brand new account, you can’t rely on the organic grow

This means that Instagram won’t promote your content and if you have 0 followers and 0 likes, almost nobody will see your content

They could be the best photos of the entire platform, but if you haven’t a followers base, nobody will see them

You could spend 5-6 months reaching 10K followers, and then 6 months to reach 100K followers

So, even if you are going to spend 2 hours to find pages that are very similar to yours, I promise you that this will be worth your time!

Another suggestion is to find accounts that have a similar following to yours

What I means by so is that if you’re just starting, you shouldn’t look for accounts that have millions of followers, but for the ones that have around 1K-20K

This is because a person who follows a page that has 3 million followers, could be not interested in following your 2K followers page, and this is because these pages have a different target audience, even if both of them are in the same niche

Instead, a person who follow and like the posts of a 4K page, could easily follow your 2K account because the pages are very very similar

Once you find the right accounts (I suggest you find at least 20 pages similar to yours) look at their most recent post

Here you can see the people that liked it, and these are people that not only are active and engaging (they like, comment, and share the content), but they were active in the last few hours!

Open up the people that liked or commented on this post, and these are the ones that you wanna target because these are the people that could easily follow back your account

For example, if you find a post uploaded like 20 minutes ago, chances are that the people that interacted with this post could still be active and online on the platform!

So, as soon as they see the notification that you followed them, they could check out your profile and, if it’s well optimized, they may end up being your followers

You can start following them and, if they already follow a page similar to yours, they could easily follow you back

Usually, with this strategy, around 20-30% of people that you follow will end up being your follower

And these are all highly targeted and engaging followers because you saw that they follow a page in your niche and they like and interact with their post!

Now, the most important thing you want to avoid and that I see most people do is to sit down, find these posts, and then follow thousands of people

Well, if you get action blocked for making too many actions (like following 1’000 people in 30 minutes) Instagram will drastically reduce your reach

This means that only a little portion of your followers will be able to see your posts and your growth will be compromised

If you are just starting and your page get action blocked, I would suggest you start another page from scratch, you’d save a lot of time and frustration

The best way to increase the return on your follow without randomly following a bunch of people is to interact with them

In that way, you’re not spamming people, and both your target audience and the algorithm will look at you as an actual and real person and not as a bot

Another way you can use this strategy is by going on a page similar to yours like before, but now click on their followers

If you tap on his followers, you can see the last people who just followed this page, and chances are that, if they followed this page, they could follow your page too

I recommend following the first 20-30 people on the list because the other could have followed the page too much time ago, but it depends on the page

A 10K page could gain around 10 people every hour, instead, a 1K page could gain like 5 people every couple hours (it depends, I'm just generalizing)

You want to follow only the people who just followed the page, maybe in the 30 minutes before and that could be still online

This strategy works well too, but the followers that you gain could be less active than the ones that liked and commented on the posts

So I suggest you use especially the first strategy, but sometimes you can also try to incorporate this one

How to avoid getting blocked

If you are using the follow for follow strategy, the worst thing that could happen is to get your account action blocked

This means that Instagram will block you from doing other actions, like follow, unfollow, or like

Once you get blocked, Instagram will also drastically reduce your reach

This means that, if before your posts were reaching 3000 people at the time, now they reach only like 1500 or 1000

This could kill your growth and, if you’re running a brand new account, you could think to restart a new one from scratch

So, what do you have to do to avoid getting action blocked?

You have to know that you have 500 actions per day max (like, follow, comment, DM..)

It means that if you do more than 500 actions per day, Instagram will block you almost for sure

Yes, maybe one day you can do more than 500 and nothing will happen, but if you continually do more than 500 actions per day, I can almost guarantee you Instagram will block you

My suggestion is to not follow over 200 people a day (plus liking and commenting on some of the photos of people you are following)

In that way, you’re almost sure that nothing will happen to your account

So, how to apply the follow for follow strategy?

The best way is to spread your 200 follow (or unfollow) through the day

So you wanna follow 40 people per hour, 5-6 hours a day

Doing so you’ll be able to grow slow and steady and you won’t have any particular issue

I’ve made this mistake in the past: I was following 200 people per day, but I was thinking that I was growing too slowly, so I started mass following people, and guess what happened?

Instagram blocked my account and my reach dropped by 70%

Fortunately, after 2 weeks everything returned to normality, but I wasted 14 days!

So, don’t commit my same mistake, don’t abuse this strategy, and always be patient

Once you reach 5-6K following, you’ve to start unfollow people

This is because in that way you are looking too spammy and people don’t want to follow and interact with spammy accounts!

So, respect the same guidelines you used for the following: 40 people per hour for 5-6 hours a day

5 times a day is perfect, but if you want to risk a little bit more you can even try to follow 300 people per day

It shouldn’t happen anything, but my first recommendation is to follow only 200 people per day

If you think that once you start unfollowing people, they’ll start to unfollow you too, don’t worry

If you post great and engaging content and your profile is well optimized, people will become your loyal follower and they won’t even notice that you unfollowed them

This is because I think that the follow for follow strategy is the best way to create a loyal fan base of people who follow you and interact with your content!
