Kaylee Weiler, 2021, from the short film Chuckles, Burbank, CA by Yorick Moran
Tell us about your acting background.
I started acting when I was seven years old and performed in small productions of classic films such as Snow White, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, A Christmas Carol, etc. I then transitioned into high school and joined the theater production and drama club, where we put on performances such as A Simpler Time and The Bold, the Young, and the Murdered.
How is doing a film different from any other projects you’ve done?
Being a part of this film was completely different from what I have done before in the best possible way. I have always wanted to be in a film and the process is completely different than being in a stage production. I loved how we had the ability to create new ideas on the spot and had the ability to redo a shot if it didn’t meet our standards.
How did you get yourself into character for this role?
I feel that Ellie and I are kinda similar in a way. If I was dealing with a witch roommate, I would definitely be giving sass and sarcasm, but also able to put up a fight. I did have to get in a mindset that this cute teddy bear was deadly and trying to kill me, which was a bit of a challenge, but I envisioned this bear as all of my worst nightmares in one and all of them coming at me.
What was the most difficult part of doing Chuckles?
I think the hardest part of being a part of Chuckles was placing a time limit on our creativity. The whole crew is so talented and had so many ideas that it was hard to tame all of the ideas in the time frame of two days. There were so many times when we wanted to add more or redo shots but because of our time limit, we were not able to do them. But in the end, I feel that we all are proud of what we have accomplished. IF
