Innocensia John
I am a senior lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Business at the University of Dar es Salaam and a research fellow with EfD Tanzania.
Fields: Agricultural Economics, Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, Development Economics
Research Interests: My research focuses on the intersection of agricultural economics, climate adaptation, and inclusive development in sub-Saharan Africa, examining how institutions, policies, and value chains influence resilience, equity, and sustainability in food systems. I am particularly interested in climate-smart agriculture, indigenous and orphan crops, and the transformation of food systems to enhance nutrition and livelihoods. My work also addresses policy coherence, the economic potential of geographical indications, and regional integration in agricultural development. In addition, I explore gender and labour dynamics, including intra-household decision-making, women’s and youth employment in agriculture, and the socioeconomic conditions of vulnerable groups such as domestic workers. A key thread across my research is assessing markets, trade, and investment opportunities that foster inclusive growth, food security, and climate resilience.
