If you want a compact, lightweight carrier specifically designed for quick access and winter sports gear in tight spaces, choose INNO ROOF Box 320; if you need maximum cargo volume for long family road trips and superior weather resistance, choose Thule Pulse 2. This comparison cuts through the noise to help you decide which box fits your specific hauling needs, particularly when considering how each handles the unique challenges of keeping your vehicle clean during for car washing scenarios.
• Thule Pulse 2: It offers massive 400-liter (14 cu ft) capacity and a rugged ASA-ABS shell built for extreme durability; its trade-off is a larger footprint that requires more roof space and handling effort.
• Who is the INNO pick for? Drivers prioritizing fuel efficiency, easy removal, and carrying skis or snowboards without overwhelming their vehicle's aerodynamics.
• Who is the Thule pick for? Families or adventurers needing to haul bulky luggage, camping gear, and extensive equipment for multi-day escapes where every cubic foot counts.
The INNO ROOF Box 320 is engineered for the driver who values precision and ease over sheer bulk. With a capacity of 9 cubic feet, this unit is not about filling your roof until it groans; it is about maximizing utility within a compact footprint. The square design allows for highly efficient packing of specific items like skis and snowboards, capable of holding up to four snowboards or between six to eight pairs of skis. If your primary travel mode involves hitting the slopes for a weekend trip rather than moving an entire household's worth of furniture, this box hits the sweet spot.
One of the most practical features for daily users is the Memory Mount System. This technology ensures that once you have positioned your mounting brackets on your crossbars, the box remembers that exact location. You can slide it off for parking security or weight reduction and slide it back on with zero fumbling to realign the hardware. Combined with the ability to open from both the left and right sides, loading becomes intuitive regardless of which side of your vehicle you are standing on. Whether you are parked in a tight garage or next to another car at a trailhead, accessing your gear is never a struggle.
However, this model is not for everyone. If you are planning a two-week camping expedition where you need to pack tents, coolers, and multiple sets of clothes, the 9 cu ft limit might feel restrictive. Furthermore, while the SPM injection construction provides a solid base and the two-layer ABS top offers protection, the overall aesthetic is utilitarian. It is a tool for the active individual who wants to keep their roof profile low and their vehicle aerodynamic.

The Thule Pulse 2 is the workhorse for those who need serious room to breathe. With a staggering 400 liters of cargo space, this medium-sized box transforms a standard sedan or SUV into a mobile storage facility. The streamlined shape is designed to suit a wide variety of modern vehicles, ensuring that despite its size, it integrates cleanly with contemporary automotive lines.
Durability is central to the Pulse 2's identity. Constructed from hardwearing ASA-ABS plastic, this shell is specifically engineered to resist sun damage, scratches, and harsh weather conditions better than standard materials. This matters immensely if you live in an area with intense UV exposure or frequent hail. The forward position of the box on the vehicle roof is a deliberate design choice that facilitates full trunk access. You can open your rear hatch without worrying about the cargo box getting in the way, a common frustration with older or poorly positioned designs. The tool-free system with a torque indicator adds a layer of safety assurance, clicking to confirm the box is securely attached before you hit the highway.
This unit is ideal for families or groups who view their vehicle as a primary transport hub for adventures. The dual-side opening allows passengers to grab items easily from either curb, eliminating the need to climb around the vehicle. However, the sheer size of the Pulse 2 demands consideration regarding roof space and wind noise. While the shape is aerodynamic, a 14-cubic-foot box will inevitably create more drag than a smaller alternative. It is a commitment to carrying more, which means accepting slightly higher fuel consumption and a larger physical presence on the road.
• Best for Maximum Volume → Thule Pulse 2: With 400 liters versus 9 cubic feet, the Thule wins decisively for large loads.
• Best for Ski/Snowboard Enthusiasts → INNO ROOF Box 320: Specifically rated to carry up to 4 snowboards or 8 pairs of skis efficiently.
• Best for Weather Resistance → Thule Pulse 2: The ASA-ABS material offers superior protection against sun, scratches, and elements compared to standard ABS.
• Best for Easy Installation/Removal → INNO ROOF Box 320: The Memory Mount System simplifies the process of taking the box on and off repeatedly.
• Best for Trunk Accessibility → Thule Pulse 2: Its forward positioning minimizes interference with the rear hatch opening.
• Best Value for Occasional Use → INNO ROOF Box 320: Lower cost of ownership due to lighter weight and smaller size makes it easier to store when not in use.
In my opinion, the Thule Pulse 2 is the superior choice for most buyers because it offers the versatility needed for true road adventures. The extra capacity and durable ASA-ABS construction provide peace of mind that a smaller box cannot match. I would recommend the Thule Pulse 2 specifically for anyone who plans to use their vehicle for for car washing maintenance, as the forward design prevents the box from interfering with cleaning the rear of the vehicle, and the robust shell withstands the rigors of frequent travel better than the lighter INNO alternative. While the INNO box is excellent for specific winter sports trips, the Thule Pulse 2 serves as a more comprehensive solution for year-round hauling needs.
No, the Thule Pulse 2 is actually easier to manage during cleaning because its forward position leaves the rear hatch fully accessible, allowing you to wash the back of your car without maneuvering around a box that blocks the door.
Yes, the INNO ROOF Box 320 features a Memory Mount System designed specifically for quick installation and removal, allowing you to detach it and store it away without losing the bracket alignment.
Both boxes are designed for winter sports, but the INNO ROOF Box 320 is explicitly rated to hold up to 4 snowboards or 6 to 8 pairs of skis, whereas the Thule Pulse 2 focuses on general cargo volume that can accommodate skis among other gear.
Yes, the Thule Pulse 2 uses ASA-ABS plastic which is noted for resisting sun and scratches better than the standard ABS used in many other boxes, potentially offering a longer lifespan in harsh climates.
