Light-assisted interaction and position response of cold atoms

Anirban Misra

In this talk, I shall discuss about our recent experimental results on light assisted collisions and their effect on the position response function of cold atoms which can be explained following a self-consistent Langevin equation based theoretical model. We subject the cold atoms to an intense laser light tuned near a molecular resonance and observe the position response of the atoms subjected to a sudden displacement. Surprisingly, we observe that the entire cold atomic cloud undergoes collective oscillations. I shall discuss about our experimental facility in QuMix and interspecies interaction measurements as well as our ongoing measurements on transporting cold atomic clouds in “magnetic conveyer belts”.
