The design and implementation of a scientific instrument that should operate from space involves a lengthy procedure consisting of numerous steps. The steps involved and the approach one takes can be quite different compared to ground based instrument development. This poster gives a quick overview of the steps involved in space payload design and implementation, based on the experience derived and lessons learned from developing the X-ray polarimeter POLIX payload.
