Road Maintenance costs in Iran and the Semnan Province

The aim was to estimate the costs required for maintaining roads in Iran, based on some physical and anthropogenic variables.

Maintaining transportation infrastructure is vital for the well-being and progress of society as a whole. It enables the movement of goods and people, supports industries, and connects individuals to essential services and opportunities. By investing in efficient transportation systems, we can foster economic prosperity, ensure timely emergency assistance, reduce environmental impact, and promote inclusivity, and cultural exchange.

The maintenance cost was calculated in USD, as a product of the base cost, the length of the road, and the degradation impact of each variable on the road (wight).

Since the variables that affect the costs in this province the most are the altitude, slope, and river crossings, it is important to spatially locate those spots in order to monitor the areas and guide the decision-making policies.
