About

If you have had an ostomy before and are living with a stoma like me, then you know how annoying it can be to find the right ostomy supplies for a decent price. After all, we all know that insurance in this country is a complete joke. As my coworker once told me, insurance costs would not be such a big deal if you did not have to rely on just the few select insurance companies that are available in your state. Basic economics will tell you that this is a simple way to jack up prices as there is a complete lack of competition among these few insurance companies that have domain over entire states. Honestly, the whole thing is one big sham. Anyways, insurance costs can be completely outrageous, and it is no wonder why many Americans simply don’t have good health insurance coverage. That being said, it can be really hard to afford ostomy supplies if you don’t have proper insurance through your place of employment or through the government. So if you’re like me and are struggling to keep up to date with all your ostomy supplies on a budget, I totally get it.

The annoying part about all of this is that the ostomy supplies recommended by your doctors and surgeons are great choices, if you have a lot of money to spend or are involved with a good insurance company. People like me, however, are forced to look for alternative options since the ostomy supplies available through hospital retail are just incredibly overpriced. That’s why I have started to look around to other places in order to find my stoma supplies, because I feel that it is simply not worth it to buy supplies and gear when it is too expensive. I have to live with this stoma for the rest of my life, there is no way that I can afford to continually pay out of pocket for expensive supplies. That’s the other annoying thing about it - if I can’t afford ostomy supplies whatsoever, am I just going to have to curl up into a ball and die? Like, is there an end to the madness? Surely the United States healthcare system or government would take some semblance of pity on me before I succumb to lack of stoma care.

Anyways, I have been fortunate enough to find some pretty good online sellers for ostomy supplies, gear, and accessories. That is the single biggest piece of advice I can offer to anybody in search of various ostomy products and supplies; definitely do what you can to search around online. It may take some time to find some sellers that are worth the time and money, but they are definitely out there. You can also look up reviews on products and see what other customers are saying about certain things. This is super helpful when you are looking at some sort of ostomy supplies that you have not used before, and this feature is totally not available if you are just buying your ostomy supplies in person. Plus, what’s better than being able to sit on your couch and scroll through websites on your phone in order to purchase the stoma supplies you need. I know that for me personally, I will probably never go back to buying ostomy supplies in person again.
