History of Infected Mushroom
Infected Mushroom was formed in 1996 by Erez Eisen and Amit Duvdevani, who met at a trance party in Haifa. Eisen had been making music since he was four years old, learning to play the organ and the piano. He later became interested in computerized music and started producing psytrance under various aliases, such as Shidapu and Shiva Shidapu. Duvdevani had been a classical musician since he was three years old, playing the piano and the violin. He also served as a DJ in the Israeli army and was influenced by the Goa trance scene.
The duo decided to name themselves Infected Mushroom after a local punk band that Eisen liked. They started working on their debut album, The Gathering, which was released in 1999 on BNE Records. The album was a breakthrough in the psytrance scene, featuring a dark and complex sound that was different from the typical Goa style. The album also included a cover of The Doors' song "Riders on the Storm", which showcased their ability to fuse rock and trance elements.
Infected Mushroom continued to evolve their sound and style with their subsequent albums, such as Classical Mushroom (2000), B.P. Empire (2001), Converting Vegetarians (2003), IM the Supervisor (2004), Vicious Delicious (2007), Legend of the Black Shawarma (2009), Army of Mushrooms (2012), Converting Vegetarians II (2015), Return to the Sauce (2017), and More than Just a Name (2020). They also collaborated with many artists from different genres, such as Lady Gaga, Steve Aoki, Matisyahu, Paul Oakenfold, Jonathan Davis of Korn, Ray Manzarek of The Doors, and more.
