The objective of this challenge is to design palletized fixturing for a machining process, related to the following scenario:
You are tasked with manufacturing dice (shown above), and your objective is to create a fixture that performs all (8) machining operations in a single cycle, such that after every cycle you end with a single finished product (one piece flow).
Machine = 3-Axis VMC (ex: Haas Mini Mill)
Determine fixturing devices/hardware (hint: look for existing designs, rather than trying to reinvent the wheel!)
Visually create & present your final fixture design(s) via CAD
Include your design process, iterations, roadblocks that you ran into & overcame
Explore the following considerations related to fixturing & workflows, and document your ideas/results:
How do you locate, secure, & support all 8 dice through all operations within this fixture?
Clearly identify all 8 steps in the cycle of fixturing for your fixture
Would your fixture/pallet be loaded into & out of the CNC machine via a human or robot, and how would they/it do so?
What tool(s) would be needed to load/unload the parts to the fixture?
Define your production workflow and each step within it (from raw material to finished product, in your customer's hands)?
