Jenn Shaneberger brought these two professionals in to talk to KCAD students. She is the Executive Director of the Grand Rapids Film Festival
- GRFF now has 3 festivals per year
- October: film screening: 280 Ann Street NW: outdoors with a bonfire
- Jan: They hold the 36 hour challenge Jan. 26 - kick off is at WNF 217
- April: 3 day festival

- Short films can lead to work on features
- Creates own Indy films (Super Mom)(writes, casts, producing, shoots, directs, edits and used effects from a stock library)

- Won a big script writing contest (Final Draft Big Break contest - submitted to 4 contests and got rejected by 3) in NY (where he was living) which led to work in LA
- Currently works in a coffee shop while making Films
- Creates own Indy films (Something Fun)

How much ADR voice do you like to do in your films?
- Jason tries to capture as much on set as possible.
- ADR, when done, is done on-location (or a similar location) for authenticity.
- He avoids studio captured ADR, but sometimes it is unavoidable.

How are these platforms for building an audience and gaining the attention of studios?
- ... Not as good as the film festival circuit. Vimeo is more legit for getting studio attention and Youtube is better for monetizing content.
- Jason recommended Distribber: a legit distributor that will jury works and pitch to distribution channels. They take very little $ if they don't find a buyer. And if they do find buyers, that take less percentage than every other agent or studio.

Moving to LA Bottom Line
- Be humble... take a low-level job like an internship to get started.
- Be willing to work on a team... make connections on Indy films (for little or no pay).
- Move from company to company for promotions because companies will always remember you for the job you entered the company with... even after you get promoted.
- Storyboard artists are in high demand
- Apply for jobs directly to companies (cold call) as well as search for postings.
