Fabulous Formative Assessment With Tech by Kara Guiff

Come explore free tools that can easily be implemented in any subject area and most grade levels. You will see how to get instant data to help you know who understands your lesson so you can adjust your teaching as needed. Attendees will spend time experiencing how the tools work as a student and a teacher. There will also be time for setting up accounts and searching for/creating assessments with Kara’s help as needed. We will go quickly to explore as many programs as possible in the time we have. Some tools we may explore: Poll Everywhere, Woot Math, Pear Deck, Quizalize, Quizziz, Socrative, Google Forms, Mentimeter. Formative Assessment is a researched based strategy with a large effect size on learning. Amping it up with technology so that all students may participate comfortably makes it that much more effective.

Tech Equity: Our Planbook for Mistakes to Missions by Maria Sellers and Holly Swartz

All Computer Science curriculum arrives with content but not all content is set up to support all students. The question becomes how do you support your students who arrive with different knowledge levels, excitement levels, and ability levels? Equity is now your new challenge. Differentiation is the key! There are ways to differentiate your content and opportunities to support your students and provide an equitable learning experience so they will be inspired to continue on their Computer Science journey. We will share our successes and failures as well as provide our top ten tips and tricks to help you thrive on your journey to an equitable learning experience to your classroom. (This session has been prerecorded.)

Concurrent Sessions 2

Online LIteracy Tools You Should be Using, No Matter What You Teach by Kara Guiff

All teachers are responsible for helping students gain digital literacy skills. No matter what content you teach, this session will introduce you to online literacy tools you can use to help your students think more deeply and communicate their understanding of what they are reading. Attendees will be introduced to Insert Learning Pk-12 (Chrome only) and Actively Learn 3rd-12 (any browser). Educators will have the opportunity to try each platform from a student's perspective as well as learn to use the teacher features. These platforms allow teachers to embed several types of questions, videos, links, images, etc. Students respond to questions and have opportunities to annotate and ask questions of their own. Time will be allotted for attendees to create lessons they can use in their classrooms. The literacy tools we will cover will give all educators access to some of the best texts, annotation tools, and data to help them easily and accurately assess student knowledge and increase comprehension skills in their students.

Practical Technology for Diverse Learners by Jen Butler

We will talk about the reality of using technology in the classroom for a variety of students. How to use the data we have to inform classroom interventions. The majority of the options presented are free to educators. I have been in two different 1:1 schools, teaching both advanced, dual credit courses and the tier 3 intervention courses. The reality of teaching such diverse learners has given me perspective on matching teachers and students to technology they can use and that is not intimidating for teacher or student.

Computer Science with Limited Resources by Maria Sellers

Join this session to explore activities and unplugged lessons that will help you meet the Indiana Computer Science Standards. You can teach computer science without devices! All too often, teachers believe they need devices to teach computer science. The Indiana Department of Education is requiring computer science education but not every classroom has access to devices. Going unplugged with computer science lessons can be just as powerful!

Concurrent Sessions 4

1:00-1:50

Every Teacher is a STEM Teacher by Jim Johnson

Learn about how to offer STEM topics in your classroom and give students new learning opportunities. STEM kits, tools, programs, web sites and more will be featured to help you start your school off with a bang!

Breakout EDU - It's Time For Something Different by Kara Guiff

Breakout EDU is like bringing Escape Room fun and engagement to your classroom. Participants in a game need to solve clues to get codes which are the combinations to a series of locks. When all the locks are successfully opened, the participants have "broken out" whatever is in the box (determined by actual game storyline). Attendees will work together to solve challenges. This breakout will encompass tasks in several subject areas so teachers can see how they could use a breakout for their content. Breakout EDU is an innovative concept that can uniquely engage your students in any subject area. Breakout EDU is a hands on approach with tech integration to help students be motivated to apply and learn content in an engaging way. Teachers need to tap into ideas that give students opportunities to show what they know in ways they enjoy working.

Spark Student Voice by Valerie Summerlot

Technology is an amazing tool for teachers to promote student voice. Come learn about Adobe Spark and various way to implement this free program with students in any classroom. This adds more tools to a teachers tool belt. Often times we get in a rut of teaching things the same way over and over because it's easy and we are used to to. This tool allows teachers a variety of ways to use it through creating graphics, web pages, and even videos you can voice over. The best part, it's free. What a great, easy to use, visual tool for pre-service teachers and current teachers to get started with their students.

Concurrent Sessions 5

Starting a Summer Tech Camp by Jim Johnson

Students and families are always looking for great learning challenges during the summer so why not offer a summer tech camp? Learn how a rural Ohio school district offers a week long technology focused camp for students to learn robotics, programming, drone racing, 3D printing, electronics, PC Repair, eSports, and other topics. A guide of resources will be shared and how the program is set up and funded.

Global Connections Empower Students by Kara Guiff

Connecting to people outside of their school community helps students care more about the quality of their work, engage in learning, increase their digital citizenship skills, embrace differences, step outside their comfort zones, and see themselves as citizens of a global society. Join this session to see and hear about successful connections, get and share ideas for connecting, and begin to build global connections for your students. The global society we live in and send students out into to get jobs requires they have the ability to confidently connect with people near and far. Finding ways to build those skills into existing curriculum empowers teachers to empower their students.
