Jennifer Butler

Hello! My name is Jen Butler. I have been teaching for 19 years, most of those in a small rural school. I have taught seventh grade through college students in multiple content areas. I have experience working in a 1:1 environment for almost ten years. I earned a Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and a Master’s from Indiana State, both of which helped me earn dual credit certifications in multiple areas.

Jodi Frost, Ph.D.

Dr. Jodi Frost is an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Indiana State University, in the Mathematics Education Group. She is also the current President-Elect for HAMTE (Hoosier Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators). She currently teaches math content courses as well as courses designed specifically for preservice teachers.

Kara Guiff

Kara Guiff is an innovative special education teacher with 29 years of experience in grades K-12 as a resource teacher, co-teacher, and general education interventionist. She is passionate about ensuring that all students are involved in learning experiences they can enjoy and master. Much of her time as a teacher has been spent co-teaching in general education, so she is able to understand the demands of general education curriculum and how to make appropriate accommodations for special needs students to be successful. Technology has become her go-to platform to keep students actively engaged, confident to attempt, and able to access. Currently, Kara is a full time teacher at White’s Jr/Sr High in the alternative credit recovery program. She is also the founder and lead trainer/speaker for her business, Guiff Goodies for Education, which gives her a platform to help educators perfect their craft - not reinvent it. Kara loves keeping up with and learning new technology and teaching methods and is excited to share her knowledge with other educators.

Jim Johnson, Ph.D.

Dr. James (Jim) Johnson is the Director of Testing & Educational Technology in the Morgan Local School District in Southeast Ohio. He received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a Secondary Education certification from Muskingum University. He also holds a Master of Education from Ohio University in Curriculum and Instruction with an Education Technology specialty. Jim completed his Ph.D. at Indiana State University in Curriculum and Instruction with an Education Technology concentration. Jim holds a K-12 Ohio Teaching License in Computer Education. Jim has worked as a director of technology and computer science teacher at the K-12 and university levels since 1997 and has taught several graduate courses as an adjunct professor for several universities. He also operates his own business, JohnsonTech Computer Services. His research interests include social networking, free and open source software, mobile technology, digital textbooks, and teacher technology skills of pre-service and in-service teachers.

Erin R. Scholes

Erin R. Scholes, a middle school educator since 2006, currently teaches 7th grade math at Mabelle B. Avery Middle School in Somers, CT. She received her undergraduate degree from Illinois State University (another ISU!), holds a masters in Middle Level Education from Walden University, and most recently graduated from Fairfield University with a masters degree in Educational Technology. The program at Fairfield helped Erin explore new ways to enhance learning and teaching with technology, while also helping her realize her love for teaching teachers. Erin serves on the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE) Board of Trustees, serves as a mentor for new and preservice teachers, and is an International Society of Technology Education (ISTE) Certified Educator. Erin is passionate about bringing the joy of learning to her students and other teachers, and guiding them to be curators of their own digital content.

Maria Sellers

Maria Sellers began teaching at South Vermillion Community Schools in Clinton, Indiana in 2003. She started her career as an elementary music teacher and continued in this role for 11 years. She then served as an eLearning Specialist, a high school digital student leadership teacher, and building technology assistant for four years. Her role changed once again in 2017, as she began teaching GAIN (Going Above Instructional Needs) as a required course for all students at South Vermillion Middle School. Her course exposes students to computer science, digital citizenship, STEM, business, and college and career prep. She still serves as a building technology assistant and assists with all things computer science in the corporation. Maria currently serves as a Computer Science Fundamentals Facilitator for Code.org in partnership with Nextech in Indiana. She also presents at numerous EDTech, edCAMP, ISTE, CSTA, HECC and eLearning conferences in multiple states. In addition to public education, she also serves as an adjunct in the department of education and department of music at Saint Mary of the Woods College. Maria has a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance and a Master of Education with a concentration in music education from Indiana State University. Currently, she is licensed in Music Education (All Areas K-12) and Computer Science Education (P-12).

Valerie Summerlot

Hello! My name Valerie Summerlot. I am the Fine Arts Department Head and art educator at Mooresville High School spending my time with Photography and AP Art & Design students. I also serve on the MHS Pioneer Tech Team that provides assistance and professional development activities for colleagues in the area of technology integration into the classroom. I teach a majority of the day in a computer lab and because of that I have fallen in love with tech tools, student voice, student engagement, and taking it to the next level of gamifying my classroom. I look forward to sharing my journey of gamifying with you and share some activities you can implement in your classroom quickly.

Holly Swartz

Holly Swartz began her teaching career 24 years ago in Fayetteville, North Carolina as a 6th grade Math and Science teacher in the Cumberland County Schools. After her husband completed his tour in the Army she returned home where she continued her career in Elementary education with the South Bend Community School Corporation in South Bend, Indiana. In 2018 she made the decision to step out of the classroom to take on the role of Digital Integration Specialist. Holly loves to work with Elementary students on technology, she knows that they are the key to building a strong program in computer science. She has championed bringing Coding, Robotics, and other computer science classes and clubs to the Elementary and Middle Schools through her work with the Corporation’s Tech Committee and her role as a Digital Integration Specialist. Holly has run numerous clubs including an after-school Tech Club that included mentors from the High School Engineering class, a Vex Robotics team, a Girls Who Code Club, and a 3rd-grade Tech Team. Holly currently serves as a Computer Science Fundamentals Facilitator for Code.org in partnership with Nextech in Indiana. She helps run her local EdTech conferences, EdTech in the Bend and EdCamp in the Bend. She has presented at multiple conferences in Indiana and Michigan. Holly received both her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten Endorsement and her Master of Arts in Teaching Special Education (pK - 12) from Indiana University in South Bend.
