Classroom Inclusion Handbook

for Students With Physical and Health Disabilities

Where do I start?

Maybe you just found out you are going to have a new student in your class that has a physical impairment. Or perhaps you have had a student in your class for a while, but you feel like you are not giving the student what he or she needs to be academically and socially successful.

Feeling overwhelmed? You are not alone. In fact, many research studies have indicated that classroom teachers (and even special education teachers!) are underprepared to teach students with physical disabilities. You might not be familiar with your student's disability or you may feel like you are ill-prepared to accommodate his or her needs. Hopefully, this handbook will give you the knowledge and confidence you need to meet the needs of all the students in your classroom!

Choose an option from below:

What do I need to know about my student's physical disability or health condition?

What types of support does my student need from me?

What might interfere with my student's learning?

What supports do I have? Where do I go with questions?
