In my work, I isolate specific domains of learning and investigate how specific sources of sociocultural influences interact with cognitive and mental capabilities in these domains, over the course of a child's development. This line of work has important implications for diversifying behavioral sciences, changing the language and approach of our science from unjustified generalizations to specification and cultural accuracy.
Domains that my work has focused on include:
Learning to categorize the social world
Learning about the supernatural
Learning about science
Mental health and wellbeing in children and youth
And specific sociocultural influences that I have studied in the above domains include:
Parental testimony and language
Cultural factors like religion and structural factors like gender segregation
Parent-child relationship quality
