Whispering Smith (1948)
Whispering Smith (1948)
This classic train movie features Alan Ladd as a railroad detective who must face off against his old pal Murray (Robert Preston).
The early robbery scene features V&T's #22 (owned by Paramount) pulling a passenger train through the rain. We see the train crew holed up inside V&T's Combine #15 as the robbers prepare to make their move. Today, both this locomotive and car can be seen at Nevada State RR Museum in Carson City, NV.
As the train pulls into "Coyote Creek" station, a shootout takes place on the platform. Here we see Combine #15 and Kimball Coach #3 or 4, all relettered as "Nebraska & Pacific." All of these were owned by Paramount at the time and have since moved into the possession of NSRM.
We catch a few more glimpses of #22, along with what appears to be V&T #18 "Dayton" with a work train around the town of "Medicine Bow" - which was built in an open area on the Paramount Studios lot.
Another look at the "Nebraska & Pacific #19" - which is supposedly V&T's #18 "Dayton," currently on loan to the CA State RR Museum.
Another depot scene featuring one of the V&T Kimball Coaches as well as Combine #15 in the distinctive red paint scheme they carried around this time.
Another quick shot of Combine #15 and what appears to be the Inyo repainted again as "#31."
