Sons of Katie Elder (1965)
Sons of Katie Elder (1965)
This star-packed western about brothers returning home to avenge their father's death features a smattering of train footage.
The opening credits feature some splendid color footage of Rio Grande's #476 leading a train through the Colorado Rockies. This was borrowed from Run For Cover starring James Cagney. Today this engine can be found at Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.
As the train pulls into the "Clearwater" depot we are now seeing N de M #650 in one of it's many featured roles. This engine, once owned by John Wayne, is now on display at the National Museum of Mexican Railways in Puebla, Mexico. The depot set appears to be on or near Wayne's ranch outside Durango - NOT in Perkinsville, AZ as reported elsewhere.
Town scenes were likely shot at Rancho La Joya De John Wayne in Chupaderos, Mexico.
