This TV movie stars Tom Selleck, Sam Elliott and Dominque Dunne and was filmed around Jamestown, CA. 

Town scenes were done in Columbia City, CA  - now a state park. 

Mac (Selleck) stays in the City Hotel in Columbia - which you can too (via the state park's website)! Heck you can even sleep in the same bed...

The camp scenes give us a great view of Sierra Railroad's movie train with Engine #3, a flatcar, Coach #2, V&T Baggage #21, Combine #5 and Caboose #7. This entire consist (minus the baggage car) survive at Railtown 1897 in Jamestown. 

The ensuing chase sequence features the train going through the popular Red Hills filming site, which would later be used most memorably in Back to the Future: Part III.
