Run For Cover (1955)
James Cagney makes a rare appearance in a western playing a man who ends up caught in the middle of a train robbery and later becomes sheriff.
In the opening scenes of the film, Matt (Cagney) and Davey (John Derek) somehow end up accidentally robbing a passing train. This is the Denver & Rio Grande Southern Railroad in Colorado. The train exits Rockwood Cut (seen in many other films) and passes along the famous High Line above Animas River Canyon. Today, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad operates this same stretch of track. Caboose #0587 seen at the tail end was later burned in a car barn fire and only the frame & trucks remain.
D&RGW's #476 was renumbered #7 for filming. This engine is still in use at Durango & Silverton. It is difficult to make out the other cars used in the consist. The scene on the right was shot at the Silverton depot.
