Pale Rider (1985)
Clint Eastwood returns to the western genre as a preacher with a mysterious past who decides to help save a small mining community from greedy land developers.
The "Carbon City" mining town set was built on Smiley Creek near the Vienna Mine in Blaine County, Idaho.
LaHood's town was an incredible set built on the slopes of Boulder Peak in Idaho. It was taken down after filming.
Our baddies wait for the train's arrival at a depot set built for the film at what would become Red Hills Ranch near Jamestown, CA. This same exact spot would be used as Hill Valley in Back to the Future: Part III. Sadly the buildings burned down in the early 1990s. The steam engine is Sierra #28 (renumbered as #34 for some reason), which is still in use at Railtown 1897 in Jamestown. V&T Baggage #21 (now at NSRM in Carson City) can be seen alongside Sierra movie Coach #2.
Later we see Main Street Columbia City, CA standing in for "Yuba City." Only minutes from Jamestown, this state park is well worth a visit today!
The climactic showdown takes place back in LaHood - with Boulder Peak prominent in the background.
