The New Maverick (1978)
The New Maverick (1978)
This TV movie reunites Bart (Jack Kelly) and Bret (James Garner) Maverick for one more adventure.
The film features some great run-bys of Virginia & Truckee #11 "Reno" with V&T Baggage #1, then owned by Old Tucson Studios. The passenger coach is unknown, but appeared in several productions at Old Tucson during this time. It looks similar to Dardanelle & Russellville #14, which was owned by Short Line Enterprises at the time.
Finally we see the Reno arrive at the depot set at Old Tucson, still trailed by Baggage #1. This time however, passengers unload from V&T Coach #19 (also owned by Old Tucson). Sadly, in 1995 a fire ripped through the film studio and destroyed the depot and both of these cars. The Reno was barely saved, and sustained major damage. Today it is on display at Virginia City, NV. To the right is the Reno at the exact spot of filming while it was still on display there in 2017.
Later we get a train robbery sequence as the Reno is held up at a wooden trestle. The robbers cut the boxcar loose and make off with the rifles.
We get a rare cab shot of the Reno as it returns to Old Tucson.
