Joe Kidd (1972)
Joe Kidd (1972)
This exciting western stars Clint Eastwood as ex-bounty hunter Joe Kidd, a man caught in the middle of a land dispute between a wealthy landowner (Robert Duvall) and Mexican revolutionaries.
This film was made shortly after the sale of Virginia & Truckee's #11 "Reno" to Old Tucson, which played the part of border town "Sinola." As Harlan (Duvall) and gang arrive in town, we catch a good view of the still fully-fuctional locomotive followed by V&T Combine #15 and Coach #19, also part of the deal from the infamous Paramount Studios liquidation.
The Reno barely survived a fire at Old Tucson (Coach #19 did not) and is now on display in Virginia City, NV. Coach #15 is on display at Nevada State RR Museum in Carson City.
Late in the film, Harlan and the boys arrive back in town and stroll past the "Railroad Saloon" once again in a bit of foreshadowing...
...because the last thing they'd expect is Joe to hijack the train and run it right through the saloon!
The parting shot of the film features Kidd and Helen (Stella Garcia) riding off with the train engineer trying to figure out how to sort this one out.
