Cimarron (1960)
Cimarron (1960)
This film centers on the great Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889 and features Glenn Ford in the starring role.
Scenes in town show a steam train arriving in the deep background. I believe this was the western town set on Lot 3 at MGM Studios, and that is the famous Virginia & Truckee #11 "Reno."
Soonafter a shootout takes place with Wes (Vic Morrow) and William (Russ Tamblyn) using #11's tender for cover.
As they run for cover in a church, Yancey (Glenn Ford) pursues them and we get a better view of the train at the depot. The combine car appears to be V&T #20, which was bought by MGM in 1947. Today this car awaits restoration at NSRM in Carson City. The Reno was sold at auction in 1970 and went to Old Tucson, where it was later badly burned in a fire in 1995. Now it is on display in Virginia City.
