I've been looking to buy a Kemper Kabinet for days now, to pair with my Kemper Stage. I see the buzzword "imprints" and "Kone", but I don't understand what this means. In my head I am guessing that you cannot use cab simulation with the Kabinet, and that "imprints" is the one taking over for that? That we need to use "direct profiles" in conjunction with "imprints" instead of "cab"? Have I got this correctly?

Basically, if you like the cab sound of a Celestion Vintage 30, you would select that imprint and the Kabinet will mimic it. And you have a dozen or so other speaker imprints to use. You can even set the Kabinet to be FRFR for colorless monitoring. I suppose you could place a 3rd party IR Loader in between. It's all so much easier to do using a DAW.

Thanks guys. So I was not far off in my absumptions that imprints replaces cabs in this matter. "By activating Monitor Cab Off, you suppress the cabinet simulation selectively for the MONITOR OUTPUT", thanks for referring me to the correct page of the main manual!

What is "full range" compared to imprints and cabs? I see on the forums that some people say that you need to leave cab to "on", which makes no sense to me if you're gonna use imprints? Manual wasn't so clear on that part

I believe it is the original sound captured by the cabinet that was profiled. So, the purest form of the authors profile. Which doesn't mean crap cuz only your ears know which imprint sounds the best. I find that there is not much difference between imprints if you try them out one by one at normal talking volumes. You really need to crank up the Kab/Cab to hear a difference.

Usually, the cab is the last module I will tweak and most of the time I have cab imprint default to the V30 and Pure Cab to 0.0 to 2.5. Of course, Rig Manager makes al this simple to do with a click of the mouse.

Use the KTX-100EQ sound tuning kit to tailor the audio settings in your Alpine CDA-9887 CD receiver to best match your vehicle's interior. Connect the included microphone and place it in your preferred listening position in the vehicle — the KTX-100EQ uses impressive automatic sound tuning to take the guesswork out of setting up your system.

IMPRINT sound tuning technology

Load the supplied software onto your laptop PC, connect it to the KTX-100EQ via the included USB cable, and you're ready to adjust your system. Let the computer set the adjustments, or use the software to do it manually. You'll find a built-in 3-band parametric equalizer, manual crossover controls, and manual time-correction controls as well.

Once you have the sound tweaked to your liking, your Alpine stereo stores the settings in its flash memory. Even if you disconnect the car battery, the sound settings are preserved until you use the IMPRINT kit to change them.

Use it once and send it back

Making sound adjustments with the IMPRINT is a one-time process, so there's no need for you to keep the KTX-100EQ kit after you've used it. Normally, this kit is sold only to dealers, but Crutchfield wants to make this special offer to all you car audio "do-it-yourselfers" out there:

Use the sound tuning kit and then return in to us within 30 days. We'll refund the purchase price, minus a $50 re-stocking fee — that's less than you'd pay a dealer to adjust the sound for you. On the other hand, if you decide not to use the kit, return it to us with the software unopened and we'll refund the full purchase price.

Overview: Ā The Alpine KTX-100EQ IMPRINT Sound Manager is a calibration software kit designed for the exclusive use with the Alpine CDA-9887 CD headunit and includes the following - Interface Module Box, Proprietary Connection Cable, USB Cable, Setup Microphone and Setup CD-ROM. The software program available on the included CD-ROM, used in conjunction with the included interface box, cables, microphone, CDA-9887 headunit and your laptop PC all work together to automatically capture and measure sound responses from inside your vehicle. Four microphone positions are recommended. The software offers an advanced application to correct time/frequency problems using MultEQ, and achieves the optimal listening experience from every seat in your car.

Imprint Technology: Ā IMPRINT technology automatically overcomes your vehicle's inherent acoustical challenges, and improves the sound stage, tonal balance, and definition. The system measures the entire listening area of your vehicle, capturing frequency and time domain information from each listening location inside your vehicle, and then applying a proprietary method for combining this information to represent all seat locations of your vehicle. This results in a maximized listening experience in all seats. It does all this by using the following techniques.

MultEQ: Ā MultEQ, developed by Audyssey Labs, automatically corrects the audio for the listening environment inside your vehicle. The system is optimized for selected positions in the vehicle. Using MultEQ, the system can be tuned to match your taste, with the complete tuning process taking approximately 20 minutes. MultEQ along with the IMPRINT software and hardware captures frequency and time domain information from the vehicle's actual acoustical environment and quickly identifies any problems. It then creates a set of equalization filters to correct frequency response and time domain problems for each speaker in the vehicle. It also removes sound distortion caused by the specific acoustical problems in the vehicle by applying unique FIR filters, using more than 500 points along the frequency spectrum per channel. This optimizes the sound reproduction to the specific vehicle listening environment with much greater precision than has been achieved up until now using typical graphic or parametric equalization. The result is a more accurate, dimensional soundstage, and smoother, more natural sound optimized to match your vehicle.

As for the Imprint vs FR, Chris Kemper himself touched on why clean/low gain stuff sounds better with Imprint while high gain sounds better with FR here.... but again this would be an option not a requirement

Well maybe consensus wasn't a good word to use as sound is highly subjective so there will never be a true "consensus" on anything... but I've read the entire Kemper Kone/Kab Q&A thread and there are many people in agreement on this. So much so that even ckemper himself commented in the thread recommending FR mode for high gain profiles. So it seems like putting in an option like this would make a lot of sense. Here's some of the quotes from the thread.....

I've been trying out all combinations of Kone full range and imprints, and there seem to be some profiles that sound better with Kone in full range than with imprints (mostly heavier gain profiles or ones with lots of full range effects), but as the profiles have less overdrive, the imprints start winning out. Fender clean profiles with Kone alnico imprints are a thing of true beauty.

I mean it's a little of both. Clean/low gain/even medium gains sounds okay. It's the high gain stuff that doesn't sound good to my ears. Mr. Kemper is right that he said FRFR mode is provbably better for high gain stuff and I would agree, but then you lose the amp in the room idea. Hence, why I'll just stick with buying a regular 2x12 v30 cabinet for playing DI profiles in person and headphone studio profiles at night.

To be honest, despite being louder (the Orange speakers were 16ohms), if you are a gain player, there are only one or two imprints that sound good in my opinion...and those took some EQ work. Most sound fizzy and thin even with the treble and presence knocked down. The imprints are nice and varied with clean sounds though.

WARNINGWhile driving, do not set up MultEQ.To prevent accidents, do not set up MultEQ while driving. The setting of the MultEQ function is required to mount the microphone in the vehicle in order to measure sound characteristics. Also, during measurement, loud measurement tone (signal) from the speakers may be output. Making such settings may distract you from driving and result in an accident.

Our experience with MultEQ Ā First, MultEQ can not work wonders. The installation is still an important part of a good Audio system. If you have a good result before the MultEQ measurement, the difference between ON/OFF wont be so impressing. If you have some Phase Problems MultEQ will change the phases but you dont see that and the software makes no comment. Sometimes you have some level differences. The reason is the strategy of MultEQ. Attenuation has prority to amplification. To make two passes with different conditions is not possible. For example one measurement for the driverseat (6 Positions) and the second for all front passengers. When the measurements are done well, the tonale balance, attack, and soundstage will be much improved. Sometimes you can improve the result when you try a different microphone position. If you put the microphone closer to the midrange may you have more midbass. It depends on the system setup.

How to demonstrate MultEQ Make sure that the measurements are done in the best way as possible. Choose a audiophile music with a sophisticated instrumentation. The lead vocals of the track should stay at the center position of the sound stage. Because MultEQ makes the adjustments that the first microphone position is similar with center of the sound stage. Before you begin the demonstration switch MultEQ off. Hear a few seconds and then switch MultEQ on. Now you will hear a much improved sound stage, a perfekt tonal balance and it sounds very sophisticated. It is sometimes helpful to tell the customer what he hears. Then he feels much safer and its easier to judge the system. If you have a different level between MultEQ ON and OFF. The reason is the strategy of MultEQ. Dont be shy to demonstrate Mult EQ with factory speakers and the headunit amplifier. The result will be a vast improvement just as well. 2351a5e196
