Background:
The Iloilo Metalcraft and Builders Multi-Purpose Cooperative (IMAB MPC) was borne from an association of metalcraft shops which desired to advocate their cooperation through meaningful projects and various assistance. Organized in 1993 as a Cooperative, for three years the IMAB MPC existed on its own resources and built it membership base. Initially acquiring a sheet bending machine to start off its common service facility for its members, it gradually developed its own track record, eventually receiving government funding assistance to finance the expansion of its services.
With the felt need for more effective business services by its members and its partner Swisscontract's commitment towards the development of potentially sutainable local BDS providers, the IMAB MPC Business Center came into being. Since the inception of the SeCen in 1997, it gradually expanded its array of fee-based business development services which presently include re-lending (credit), common service facilities, sub-contracting, training/capability-building activities and bulk-buying.
Presently, composed of 22 members, its membership profile includes a good complement of engineers and skilled persons-turned-entrepreneurs. Most have been in the business on the average of 10-15 years, signifying the strength of the metalworking industry within the province of Iloilo.
