At the Illinois Addiction Advocates Association (IAAA), our mission is to expand, connect, and uplift all pathways of recovery across communities, systems, and professions. Through a five-year strategic vision, we aim to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, reduce stigma, and amplify the voices of all those impacted by addiction and recovery.
To increase interdisciplinary recovery support across Illinois and beyond—uniting diverse systems, services, and voices in support of long-term healing.
We begin by building a strong foundation of understanding.
• Map the Landscape: Identify and document existing recovery supports through a biopsychosocial lens—including clinical, peer-based, faith-based, mutual aid, harm reduction, and more.
• Explore Recovery Pathways: Deepen awareness of diverse recovery approaches and frameworks.
• Destigmatize Recovery: Challenge myths, reduce shame, and demystify what recovery means for different individuals and communities.
We move from research to recognition and inclusion.
• Highlight Strengths: Showcase the unique benefits of each recovery support model.
• Facilitate Connection: Host inclusive events and gatherings that bring different recovery systems together to foster unity and learning.
• Grow the Movement: Strengthen the visibility and accessibility of recovery communities across the state.
We address barriers and create pathways for collaboration.
• Streamline Collaboration: Develop practical tools, networks, and systems that help recovery professionals, peer advocates, clinicians, and communities communicate more effectively.
• Bridge Gaps: Reduce silos between medical, mental health, social service, criminal justice, and peer recovery domains.
• Empower Coordination: Lay the groundwork for an interdisciplinary recovery support network across Illinois.
