If you want a fun, character-themed gift that kids will instantly recognize and love for casual listening, choose iJoy Squishmallows; if you need serious battery life, deep bass, and noise cancellation for long commutes or focused study sessions, choose Wentronic Y02.
• iJoy Squishmallows: Its biggest strength is the officially licensed, soft plush design that appeals directly to fans of the toy line, making it a perfect visual gift; however, it offers a shorter 15-hour battery life and older Bluetooth 4 technology compared to modern standards. This pick is best for young children who prioritize the look of their headphones over high-fidelity audio specs.
• Wentronic Y02: Its biggest strength is the massive 60-hour playtime and advanced Active Noise Cancellation that creates a quiet bubble for focus; its trade-off is a standard, non-character aesthetic that lacks the immediate "cute" factor of a plush toy. This pick is ideal for older children, teens, or anyone needing reliable performance for travel and gaming without distractions.
The iJoy Squishmallows headphones are designed with a very specific audience in mind: those who already have an emotional connection to the Squishmallows brand. The defining feature here is the enclosure material, which combines fabric and plush elements rather than hard plastic or leather. This isn't just about aesthetics; it creates a tactile experience where the ear cups feel soft to the touch, mimicking the comfort of the stuffed animals themselves. For a child who carries their favorite plush toy everywhere, hearing music through headphones that match that texture can make the device feel like a natural extension of their playtime rather than a piece of electronics.
In terms of performance, these headphones are built for casual, everyday use rather than critical listening. They feature dynamic drivers that deliver decent sound quality with deep bass and crisp treble, suitable for watching cartoons, playing video games, or listening to music while doing homework. The 15-hour battery life is sufficient for a day of school or a weekend trip, but it requires more frequent charging than premium models. The Bluetooth 4 connectivity ensures a stable connection within a 33-foot range, which is plenty for moving around a house or sitting on a bus, though it may not offer the ultra-low latency found in newer chipsets.

This product is strictly for families looking for a themed gift or a first pair of wireless headphones for a younger child. If your goal is to find the best earphones for children who care more about having a teal-colored, squishy headband than having studio-quality sound, this is the logical choice. However, parents seeking a device that can handle heavy daily abuse over several years might find the plush material less durable than synthetic leather. It is also worth noting that the hybrid noise cancellation is present, but given the softer materials and lower frequency tuning, it functions more as passive isolation combined with light active filtering rather than a total silence generator.
The Wentronic Y02 targets a different demographic entirely: users who prioritize functionality, endurance, and acoustic performance above all else. The build quality here is robust, utilizing skin-friendly PU protein leather and high-resilience memory foam. This combination is engineered for all-day wearability, ensuring that even after hours of continuous use, the pressure on the head remains low and the ears stay breathable. Unlike the plush exterior of the iJoy model, the faux leather shell of the Y02 suggests a design meant to withstand the rigors of a backpack, a gym bag, or a busy classroom environment.
Audio performance is where this model truly distinguishes itself from budget options. It features a 40mm dynamic driver with a composite diaphragm capable of Hi-Res Audio reproduction across a full frequency range of 20Hz to 20,000Hz. This means the soundstage is wider, the mids are richer, and the highs are clearer than what you would expect from standard consumer headphones. The inclusion of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is a game-changer for students or travelers; it actively detects ambient noise across the audible spectrum and cancels it out, allowing the listener to focus completely on their content. Whether it is the hum of a plane engine, the chatter of a cafeteria, or the noise of a construction site outside, the Y02 effectively isolates the user.
Battery life is another area where the Wentronic Y02 dominates. With up to 60 hours of playback time, it eliminates the anxiety of running out of power during a long journey or a multi-day camping trip. The fast-charging feature adds further utility; a mere 10-minute charge provides four additional hours of listening, which is perfect for emergency situations when a charger is forgotten. The latest Bluetooth 5.4 chip ensures a rock-solid connection with minimal dropouts, supporting crystal-clear calls even in noisy environments thanks to multiple high-sensitivity microphones. For someone looking for a gaming headset for children who plays online multiplayer games, the stability and mic clarity of the Y02 provide a competitive edge that the iJoy model cannot match.
• Best for battery life → Wentronic Y02: With 60 hours of playtime versus 15 hours, the Wentronic wins by a massive margin, requiring far fewer charges over a week.
• Best for character appeal → iJoy Squishmallows: Only the iJoy model offers the official plush design and recognizable branding that makes it a hit with Squishmallows collectors.
• Best for noise isolation → Wentronic Y02: The dedicated Active Noise Cancellation and memory foam seal create a much quieter environment than the hybrid system in the iJoy.
• Best for durability → Wentronic Y02: Faux leather and rigid components generally hold up better to rough handling than fabric and plush materials.
• Best for audio fidelity → Wentronic Y02: The 40mm drivers and Hi-Res Audio certification offer a superior soundstage and detail retrieval compared to standard dynamic drivers.
• Best for lightweight comfort → iJoy Squishmallows: Weighing only 5 ounces, the iJoy is exceptionally light, though the Wentronic's memory foam also provides excellent comfort for extended sessions.
• Best for connectivity → Wentronic Y02: Bluetooth 5.4 offers faster pairing and better stability than the Bluetooth 4 found in the iJoy.
• Best for travel → Wentronic Y02: The foldable design, combined with ANC and long battery, makes it the superior companion for flights and road trips.
I recommend the Wentronic Y02 for almost any buyer who needs a reliable pair of headphones for daily use. While the iJoy Squishmallows are undeniably cute and serve a specific niche for fans of the plush toys, the Wentronic Y02 offers a level of performance that justifies the purchase for practical reasons. The 60-hour battery life alone saves so much hassle, and the Active Noise Cancellation makes it a true tool for focus and relaxation. If I were buying a pair of best hi res headphones for children for myself or my family, I would choose the Wentronic because it delivers on every technical promise without relying on a brand name gimmick. It is the smarter investment for long-term value.
Yes, the Wentronic Y02 is superior for travel due to its 60-hour battery life and Active Noise Cancellation, which blocks out engine noise and road rumble effectively.
While the iJoy Squishmallows are soft and comfortable, the fabric and plush materials may show wear faster than the durable faux leather of the Wentronic Y02 if subjected to rough play.
No, both products come with USB charging cables included in the box, so you do not need to purchase extra accessories to get started.
The Wentronic Y02 features multiple high-sensitivity microphones designed specifically to suppress wind and crowd noise, making it the clear winner for clear voice communication.
