Below are the instructions for completing your IH Certificate of Advanced Methodology application.
The information you give in your application (including attached documents) and interview will be used in the selection process to determine whether you meet the entry requirements for this course. It is important, therefore, to ensure that your application is complete and the information you submit fully reflects your abilities.
Incomplete applications (including applications without the interview or requested documents) will not be reviewed.
Minimum Entry Requirements: Age 18+ with an English level of C1+, initial teaching qualification and at least two years of teaching experience.
STEP 1
Update your CV (doc, docx, pdf or odt format)
Update the information on your CV with your most recent qualifications and work experience.
STEP 2
Photo/Scan of your Initial Teacher Training Qualification (jpg, png or pdf format)
Take a photo/scan (front and back) of your highest teacher training qualification/certificate (e.g. CELTA, ICELT, CertTESOL, etc.)
The images MUST be clear (i.e. all text is legible) and all four corners visible in the image.
STEP 3
Application Task
Think about the following questions as these will appear on the application. (Consider typing out your answers on a separate document so you can copy/paste your responses on the application.)
Answer the following questions in 250-300 words.
THEORY
1. What’s the difference between Method, Approach and Technique? Give examples.
2. What learning and teaching theories are you familiar with?
LANGUAGE
1. What are the language systems and the language skills?
2. List and define some sub-skills within the language skills you mentioned.
LESSON PLANNING
1. List and define the main components and sections to consider when writing a lesson plan.
2. What lesson plan frameworks are you familiar with? List them with a brief description of their stages as well as their rationale/purpose.
Lesson Plan (doc, docx, pdf or odt format)
As part of your application, you'll need to attach a lesson plan for a grammar , vocabulary or functions lesson you have recently taught.
This plan should include:
a brief profile of the class, including their needs and goals in relation to learning English
the aims of the lesson
stage aims, interaction, procedure and, where possible, attach copies or include links of the materials used. You do not need to send audio material.
a 500-word analysis of the language you have identified to teach for the lesson. Use appropriate grammar references and make sure you include aspects of meaning, form, function and pronunciation in this analysis. (Include a bibliography of the materials/books you refer to for this research).
Use your own words for this analysis and DO NOT reproduce chunks of analysis out of the grammar reference books. However, you can paraphrase and quote where necessary.
a short commentary (+/- 200 words) where you justify your planning decisions
a written reflection and evaluation (+/- 500 words) of the effectiveness of the lesson you detailed above with particular regard to the strengths and weaknesses in your teaching and how this lesson has informed / will inform your teaching in future.
STEP 4
Online Video Interview (mp4 or webm format)
Complete and submit your online video interview.
You will need a device (i.e. laptop, tablet, mobile phone) with a camera and microphone to record your interview.
The interview should take about 15-20 minutes.
You can use your preferred video recording software/app (e.g. your cell phone, native computer software, Zoom, Canva, etc.) or go to https://webcamera.io/ to record your video interview. (Instructions for webcamera.io below.)

Briefly tell us why you'd like to take the IH CAM course:

What do you expect to get from the course?
What are your strengths and weaknesses in terms of teaching methodology?
THEORY
On your application you answered some questions about learning and teaching theory.
How have you put these (learning and teaching theories, methodologies, approaches and techniques) into practice in your teaching practice?
Give specific examples and explain in detail.
LANGUAGE
On your application you answered some questions about language systems and language skills.
How do you teach language systems and language skills in your classroom?
Give specific examples and explain in detail.
Upload the saved file to the cloud (e.g. WeTransfer, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, DropBox, etc.)
Save the share link as you'll need to paste the link in the indicated field in your application. (If using a Google/One Drive or Dropbox, ensure view permissions are enabled.)
Applications without the accompanying interview will not be reviewed.
STEP 5
Application Submission
Once you have completed your online video interview and have gathered your:

photo/scan of your initial teaching qualification (front and back). You can upload this as two separate files or one combined file.

click the "Submit Application Now" button (or scan the QR code) at the bottom of this page to complete and submit your application.
Below are the instructions for submitting your IH Certificate of Advanced Methodology application online.
1. Once you open the application, you'll be asked to:
enter your full name
enter your email address
agree to the use of e-records and signatures
2. Click the "Get started" button
3. Once you complete all the required fields, click "Finish" at the top or bottom of the screen.
You will be asked to attach the accompanying documents AFTER you complete the application.
Click the "Attach" button to upload each requested document
If you upload both sides of your teaching qualification in one document, you can skip the upload of the "back".
Uploaded documents MUST be in .doc, .docx, .pdf, .odt, .jpg or .png format AND each document MUST be 10MB or less.
Applications without the requested documents will not be reviewed.
After uploading your documents, click "FINISH" to process your request.
