This 5-day devotional will help us understand how we are the Altar.
by Jumbo Aniebiet.
Day 1: DID YOU KNOW YOU ARE THE ALTAR AND THE SACRIFICE?
I used to be so scared to go close to church Altars, because in my childhood, I was taught that God lived there. It was thought of as the most sacred part of a church and I believed if I walked anyhow on it without being as holy as possible, thunder would strike me.
2 Corinthians 6:16 NLT
“For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people
Now since God, in His own wisdom, found us more suitable and capable to host His presence, how should we see ourselves? How does this affect everything we do? And what should we eat, drink and who is supposed to be in-control? In other words, who is paying the rent lol.
1 Corinthians 6: 19
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
In the coming days, we will talk discover
The Sacrifice
God Is Interested
God’s partnership
God never leaves
Prayer:
God help me to live my life with the consciousness that I am that living altar that You live in, in Jesus name, amen.
Day 2: THE SACRIFICE
To sacrifice is an act of surrendering a possession as an offering to God or to something of higher authority. Did you know that you are a sacrifice?
God created us, gave us a will and handed us the opportunity to be in control. Our desires and emotions are subject to our decisions and it has pleased God to have it that way making us co-owner of God’s creation, His temple, which is our body.
When we give our lives to Christ, we become God’s temple. He comes and dwells in us, but even though He is in us, unless we surrender our will, desires, body and all we are to Him, we will be limited in the way we are being used by Him.
Romans 12: 1
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Once we surrender, we become dead to our flesh. Our desires become God’s desires and our will becomes whatever He wants of us. Then we can enter into His rest because He becomes 100 percent responsible for us.
Galatians 2 :20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Prayer:
Thank You Jesus, for the grace to surrender. Mold me to what You want and help me make decisions that will please You. Give me the grace not to hold anything back from You, in Jesus name, amen.
Day 3: GOD IS INTERESTED
One day, I was flying to Atlanta from San Antonio. I was to board two flights to my destination. As I was getting ready, I heard a voice in my spirit saying, “make sure you use your mask.’’
Rushing to make my flight, I forgot to bring a mask, so I went to the airport counter to request for a mask. The first flight was nice and smooth, but on the second flight, I discovered about four people sitting around me were coughing non-stop. At that moment, I remembered the voice I heard earlier that told me to wear a mask. Through my obedience to that voice, I was protected from Covid or whatever any of them might have had.
Isaiah 30:21
Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.
Ezekiel 12:25
For I am the Lord: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall be no more prolonged: for in your days, O rebellious house, will I say the word, and will perform it, saith the Lord God
God cares about every detail of our lives. He wants to keep us away from trouble and He does this by speaking to us. When we hear and obey Him, our lives are better for it and it helps us escape a lot of issues.
Prayer:
Father, help us cultivate a lifestyle where we hear and obey Your voice, in Jesus name, amen.
Day 4: GOD’S PARTNERSHIP
A partnership is a formal arrangement by two or more parties to manage and operate a business and share its profits. One of our missions on the earth is to collaborate with God in fulfilling His agenda. God uses our talents, emotions, and wills, as tools to showcase His character. The way we treat people says a lot about how people see God in us. God’s agenda is that no one should perish.
2nd Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
God uses us to achieve this purpose and the more we surrender ourselves to Him, the more we become a tool in His hand. He uses us to reconcile men to Himself and there are so many benefits to this for us. He becomes responsible for us and everything that concerns us.
2nd Corinthians 5:18
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I surrender myself to You; use me to accomplish Your plan on the earth, in Jesus name, amen.
Day 5: GOD NEVER LEAVES
The story of Samson has a bittersweet ending. Samson became infatuated with a strange woman called Delilah and got into something that gave him temporary pleasure. The enemy is not really interested in the how it happens or who he uses, he is just out to steal, kill and destroy our destiny.
But we have a Father whose love is unwavering, so much so that even in our mess, He makes a way out for us. Yes, sometimes we have to suffer the natural consequences of our decisions. For example, Samson lost his extraordinary strength and sight and was put in prison. He would eventually die with the Philistines, but we could still see God’s redemption at the end of his story. He prayed to God to help him get revenge and God empowered him to pull down the mighty pillars of the house his enemies occupied. In this act, he ended up killing more Philistines in death than when he was alive. The full story is at Judges 16: 23-31.
God’s answer to Samson’s prayer is proof that God never leaves. I don’t know how deep into sin you may feel, but I can assure you that God’s love is waiting to bring you out of it.
Prayer:
Father, even in my mess, please help me to know that Your love is always available for me, in Jesus name, amen.
