Introduction
Hebrew 6:11 But without faith it is impossible to please Him. For he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Faith is a key factor in our Christian walk; it’s how we access what God has done for every one who believes in Him. Faith is how we know that something that we have not physically seen or touched truly exists. We have people who do not believe in anything higher than them or in anything they can not explain scientifically.
We find in scriptures that ordinary men did great things by faith and oftentimes even men who were not so “Godly” operated in dimensions above the normal and produced results that impacted generation after generation. These are all evidence that there is an unyielding force that is available by which men have achieved great things and that force is called faith. In this 5 day devotional, we will discuss different aspects of faith and how we can access the benefits of faith.
Day 1- Owner of Faith
Hebrew 12: 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
This shows us that clearly faith is owned by God. He is the Author and the Finisher of our faith; it’s a supernatural life of God. One day, Jesus took His disciples on a trip and on the way they saw a tree to eat from, but the tree had no fruits. So because it did not produce fruit when it should have, Jesus cursed the tree telling it to die. At that particular moment there was no evidence that death occurred; at least not to the disciples, but days after, they went through that route again and the disciples noticed that the tree was completely dead. Needless to say, they were amazed.
When speaking, the faith of Jesus made it possible for things to align with what He decreed. It is important to note that every man created in the image of God has the ability to operate by faith. Some rarely use it due to ignorance and unbelief while some others use it consistently. This supernatural faith life is available to us as children of God but we must understand how to access it and how we can use it in our daily life.
Prayer point: Jesus help me to operate in the faith dimension and make the best use of Your faith in me.
Day 2- How Faith Comes
In the beginning, God created man and woman in His own likeness and image, with one particular mandate to have dominion. Dominion means we are meant to dominate the earth, advance, and create much like God. This is why we have seen unbelievers create amazing things like airplanes, electricity, technology, and many more things, some of which they can explain and some which they can’t. When you ask them, they may say things like, I just believed that I could do it. The inherent nature to dominate and create is clearly at work. Believers on the other hand, are meant to work in accordance with faith.
Romans 10:17 says, so then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. The Bible tells us that this force called faith comes by hearing. So we must apply ourselves to the consistent habit of hearing and studying the word of God. Being full of faith means being filled with God’s word to the point that it affects how you live your daily life. A faith filled person is someone who reads, hears/feeds on the Word of God daily or even more frequently. Some additional verses to drive the point home are listed below for further reading and meditation.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.
Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you[a] shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Psalms 107: 20 He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.
Prayer point: Jesus, give me the grace to consistently study Your Word because I know that my life depends on it.
Day 3- Words of Faith
When faith is built in us, it controls our language and it conditions our response to situations or trials. The scripture says in Joel 3:10 let the weak say I am strong and the poor say I am rich. That is to say, you should not speak negatively, no matter your present condition. This is the effect of a faithful person; faith speaks based on knowledge from the Word of God. What does God say about that situation? I’m not saying to ignore reality. You can acknowledge what is happening around you but faith should lead you to confess and firmly believe God’s opinion. For example, I may feel weak but I know the Word says I am strong. Or, my bank account is in the negatives right now but I know God declares that I am rich and He will take me to make wealth. But please understand there may be things you will need to do by faith to close the gap between where you are and where God wants to take you to.
Faith speaks to impossible situations. Like telling mountains to move in Mark 11:23, Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Be encouraged as you look at situations that may seem hard or even impossible in your life.
Prayer point: I speak to every situation in my life including those mountains that have held me from moving forward, be removed now in Jesus name!
Day 4- Doing Faith Things
Faith is an action word; it propels us to do something, the Bible says in James 2:26 for as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. Faith will enable us to call forth things that are not as though they were and act like we have received it. It will allow someone who is believing in God for something like a job, promotion, spouse, car, success on an exam, or whatever else, to start celebrating as though it has already happened.
Faith helps us see ourselves exactly the way God sees us, and begin to act how God wants us to act before we get that blessing or breakthrough. By faith Jesus said this about Lazarus who was dead four days, that He was sleeping. John 11:11 These things said He: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. By faith, Jesus then went to the tomb of Lazarus to raise him who had been dead back to life. What amazing faith.
Hebrew 11: 3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. I don’t know what may not be working for you or what may need forming like the universe, but put your faith in Jesus and begin to speak and step out in faith. As you go forth may you see the manifestation of that faith.
Prayer point: I command every wall standing before me to move and I decree that I enjoy all that God has for me from now on in Jesus name
Day 5- Worship by Faith
Faith does not mean absence of fear, it is the reality of God in the midst of chaos or adversities. We live in very interesting seasons and times, so living by faith should not be an option for a believer. Living by faith is our only option. That is how you live above fear, depression, failure, or any other thing the devil may try to throw your way. Because sometimes it takes faith to worship and praise God despite your circumstances.
Psalms 34:1 I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. It takes great faith to live a consistent life of praise and worship. Imagine losing a job, having your friends or spouse walk out on you, or maybe you find yourself in a devastating situation; it takes faith to in spite of it all, to still see God as good. Just as equally, it will take faith to believe that God has a better plan for you, and will bring that plan to pass Himself.
God wants us to get to a place where we stop being anxious and worried about things; He wants us to get to a place of knowledge and understanding that He has blessed us with everything that pertains to life and Godliness. 2 Peter 1:3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence. Reminding ourselves of things like this makes the difference and helps us to keep our focus on who is truly deserving of our praise and worship.
Prayer point: Lord help me to consistently praise you knowing that You are good, Your mercy for me is forever, and that Your plans and purposes for me will come to pass.
