Ziyi (Iggy) Zhao
I am an Assistant Professor of Information Systems and Business Analytics in the College of Business at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, Florida, United States.
My research examines how artificial intelligence and digital technologies reshape knowledge work, digital innovation, and organizational decision-making. I focus on how individuals and organizations collaborate with intelligent technologies, how digital tools influence innovation processes and performance, and how emerging forms of AI-mediated work transform economic and organizational outcomes.
Grounded in experimental and computational methods, my research identifies the mechanisms through which AI, Generative AI, and Agentic AI alter coding, information-seeking, and clinical decision-making. My work also develops and applies new indices and methods for studying human–AI interaction, uncovering often-invisible behavioral processes and designing multimodal data collection methods to capture the dynamic collaboration between humans and intelligent systems.
My work has been presented at leading conferences and institutions, including ICIS, AMCIS, AOM, INFORMS, CHI, IC2S2, the Wharton School, Harvard Business School, NYU Stern, LSE, and has received honors such as the Best ERF Paper Award at AMCIS 2025, the AIS Entrepreneurial Innovation Fellowship, and the AIS Distinguished Member.
At FIU, I design and teach courses in artificial intelligence, business analytics, and data-driven decision making across undergraduate and MBA programs. My teaching applies a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) approach and emphasizes experiential learning, where students engage directly in identifying, designing, building, testing, and deploying AI-driven solutions, with the goal of leaving the course with startup-ready concepts and deployable solutions in business.
Regarding service, I actively review for journals including MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Production and Operations Management, etc. I serve as an editor for Information Technology for Development and as a program editor/committee member for DSI, INFORMS Workshop on Data Science, IC2S2, and KrAIS. I review for major IS and management conferences, including ICIS, AMCIS, AOM, ECIS, HICSS, PACIS, CIST, WITS, etc. I mentor student research and innovation initiatives and support community-building efforts within the AIS ecosystem through student competitions and research workshops.
I hold a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from Temple University, US, an M.S. in Business Analytics and Project Management from the University of Connecticut, US, and a B.S. (First-Class Honors) in International Business Economics from the University of Nottingham, UK.
Iggy was recognized as an AIS Distinguished Member with the November 2025 cohort. The program recognizes members who have made a significant impact on the association.
Iggy joined the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics at FIU as a tenure-track assistant professor, starting in December 2025.
