If you have problems when trying to log in with your Apple ID password, follow these steps to reset it and regain access to your account.
Your Apple ID is the account you use for everything you do with Apple, such as when you buy from the iTunes Store, sign in to iCloud, buy an application and more. To reset your password, you must know the email address of your Apple ID. Don’t you know the email address of your Apple ID?
The instructions vary depending on the type of security you use for your Apple ID. For example, if you are asked to confirm your phone number, follow the steps for two-factor authentication. Choose the type you use:
· Two-factor authentication
· Accounts with or without security questions
· Two-step verification
1. Two-factor authentication
If you have two-factor authentication enabled for your Apple ID, you can reset your password from any reliable iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Mac with a password or password that is enabled. Can’t access any of your devices?
On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
· Make sure your device has iOS 10 or later.
· Go to settings.
· Touch [your name]> Password and security> Change password, then follow the on-screen steps to update your password. For iOS 10.2 or earlier, touch iCloud> [your name]> Password and security> Change password, then follow the steps on the screen.
Need help with the previous step? You may not be logged in to iCloud. Open Settings and touch “Sign in to your [device]”> “Do not have an Apple ID or forgot”, then follow the steps on the screen. For iOS 10.2 or earlier, touch iCloud> I forgot my Apple ID or password, then follow the steps on the screen.
On your Mac
· Go to the Apple menu> System Preferences, then click on iCloud.
· Choose Account Details.
· If you are prompted to enter your Apple ID password, click “I forgot my Apple ID or password” and follow the instructions on the screen. You can skip the final steps below.
· Click Security> Reset password. Before you can reset your Apple ID password, you will be asked to enter the password used to unlock your Mac.
Need help with these steps? You may not be logged in to iCloud. Go to the Apple menu> System Preferences, then click on iCloud. Click on “I forgot my Apple ID or password” and follow the steps on the screen.
Use a recovery key
If you updated your Apple ID from two-step verification to two-factor authentication on iOS 11 and later, or macOS High Sierra and later, and you have a recovery key, you can use the recovery key to help reset your password.
If you cannot access any of your devices
Borrow the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch from a friend or family member and follow these steps:
· Open the Find my iPhone application.
· When a login screen appears, make sure the Apple ID field is empty. If you see someone else’s username, delete it.
· Touch I forgot my Apple ID or password, then follow the steps on the screen.
Can’t you see a login screen? Touch Sign out. After logging out, make sure the Apple ID field is empty. Then tap I forgot my Apple ID or Password, and follow the steps on the screen.
2. Accounts with or without security questions
1) Go to your Apple ID account page and click on “I forgot my Apple ID or password”
2) Enter your Apple ID. Forgot your Apple ID?
3) Select the option to reset your password, then choose Continue.
4) Choose how to reset your password:
· If you have an account with security questions set up, you can select “Answer security questions” and follow the rest of the steps.
· To receive an email, select “Get an email.” To reset your password, use the email we send to your primary or rescue email address. Didn’t you receive the email?
· If you are asked for a recovery key, use the steps for two-factor authentication or two-step verification.
After resetting your password, you will be prompted to log in again with your new password. You may also need to update your password in Settings on your devices.
· Go to your Apple ID account page and click on “I forgot my Apple ID or password” If you are asked to confirm your phone number, follow the steps for two-factor authentication.
· Enter your Apple ID, select the option to reset your password, then choose Continue. Forgot your Apple ID?
· Enter your recovery key for two-step verification. * Apple ID screen showing Enter recovery key
· Choose a trusted device. * We will send a verification code to your device.
· Enter the verification code.
· Create a new password, then select Reset password.
After resetting your password, you will be prompted to log in again with your new password. You may also need to update your password in Settings on your devices.
NOTE* If you permanently lost your Recovery Key or access to your trusted device, you cannot change your password.
