Two-Factor Authentication and Apple ID Recovery

By adding a password and a verification code that is sent to your trusted devices, Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) improves the security of your Apple ID. Go to System Preferences > Apple ID > Password & Security on your Mac, or Settings > [Your Name] > Password & Security on your iPhone/iPad, to enable 2FA. Include your gadgets in the trusted list. Enter the verification code, your password, and your Apple ID to log in. In case you don't have a reliable device, create a code on any device that is logged in by going to Settings > [Your Name] > Password & Security.

Visit the iforgot.apple.com page, input your Apple ID, and use account recovery, security questions, email, or two-factor authentication to confirm your identity if you lose your password. Create a new password and log in after verification. Your Apple ID remains safe and usable if you use 2FA and recovery.

You will be required to provide your Apple ID and password as usual when logging in to your Apple ID. You will also need to input the verification code that was provided to one of your trusted devices if you have 2FA enabled. In the event that you do not currently have access to a trustworthy device, you can create a verification code on any device by going to Settings > [Your Name] > Password & Security while already logged in.

If you visit the iforgot.apple.com website, you can begin the process of recovering your account in the event that you forget your password. You will be required to authenticate your identity after entering your Apple ID, either by email authentication, security question answering, or, if enabled, 2FA. After your identification has been confirmed.
