In the Verses the chord starts on the tonic before jumping up to the third and then up to the VI (this bar is in the relative minor of F minor. We then descend down in steps VI, then V, then progress chord by chord back down to the II where we then end the phrase on the V before the cycle then begins again. The chord structure in itself is relatively simple but so beautiful and effective. The verse lasts 16 bars and we are then in to the verse.

Welcome back. I remember around ten years ago, I was watching a video on YouTube and a song on the piano was played softly in the background. It was my first time hearing it and for the longest time, I could not get it out of my head. There was not anything particularly striking about it but I never forgot it.

His most popular piece falls into all of these categories but is very well-loved. It does not have any complex chords, key changes, or wonky timing. Yiruma manages to rearrange the notes into the most pleasant and satisfying pattern someone can listen to over and over again.

The hall was packed, but I believe it was not 100% sold out. I could still purchase some tickets 1 night before the event, albeit the pricey ones. I was actually planning to run down and sit at the premium seats but Weng Khye told me there are people checking so we best not do anything funny.

For obvious reasons, we could not see his fingers from the back, which I am sure was what many are there for because everyone wants to see his skill first hand (pun intended). Fortunately the large TV screen was as clear as day and that has aided us visually, so we got that going for us which was nice.

What Shin was asked to do was to play a random selection of notes, and Yiruma will spontaneously create a song out of it for us all to listen (Shin decided to go with 3 notes). It was actually quite good and I thoroughly enjoyed that random piece of music. Pity all of us could only hear it once. Its not everyday where you get to listen to random music created from thin air that could actually sound that great, with zero practice or rehersal!

Oh and if you've seen my other comment, I forgot to mention: he really tried to ease him up and make that event more interesting. To be honest,it wasn't just Yiruma playing the piano. He's right-his music wasn't set up for a concert, it was set up for a "memory journey" as he calls it. Although I may not have as much memories as him, it still evoked emotions from within me. He also would improvise the song right there, and it's so familiar yet interesting at the same time, and as his fan,I'm sort of upset tthat he doesn't record these songs in a studio. But other then that, it was such a beautiful night that I hope I will never forget. If he comes to New York again next year, I am going there again. I give his performance, out of 5 stars, 10 stars.

Mr. Yiruma was such a great pianist. Every piece he played could be visualize in mind. By improvising "Juliet", he let me feel the magic of music. I think he is gifted and is a gift for all of his audience. Hope to join in his September concert as well.
