A verb tells you what action is happening. A verb tense tells you when the action is happening. Simple tenses expresses facts and habits. There are 3 simple tenses you can use in your sentence: Present, Past and Simple tenses.

Examples:
Can be used to describe facts and habits:
She plays volleyball on Friday.
Mike likes spaghetti.
Can be used to describe something that is happening in the future:
The bus arrives at 2 o'clock.
The sun sets at 6 o'clock.
Can be used to tell a story or a joke:
She travels across planets with her spaceship.
A spider walks into a bar and orders a pint of beer. The bartender says "You are famous around here – we have got a drink named after you.” And the spider says, “Really? You have got a drink called Steve?”
An action that has already happened.
I studied for the exam.
Maria baked some cookies.
An action that is about to happen.
Examples:
He will go to the hospital.
