The overall band score is calculated by taking the mean result for all four parts of the test. This is calculated to the nearest whole or half band, with scores ending in .25 rounded up to the next half band and scores ending in .75 rounded up to the next whole band.

Official IELTS scores can be received by SOPHAS at any point during the application cycle, even after your application is submitted; however, some programs may have a deadline by which they want your scores posted. Once your official IELTS scores are attached to your application, they cannot be removed.

Note: if your name or date of birth appears differently on your IELTS than it does on your SOPHAS application, your scores will not automatically post to your account. This often happens with applicants with hyphens, apostrophes, etc., in their names. Wait until IELTS processes the scores, then contact customer service so they can manually connect the scores to your application.

Exams should be completed before the application deadline, and results cannot be more than 2 years old by the application deadline. While we will consider scores received after the application deadline, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to wait for those scores to arrive before making an admissions decision.

We do not accept results from the IELTS Indicator, the TOEFL ITP Plus for China, TOEFL Essentials, or the PTE Academic Online. We also do not accept TOEFL iBT "My Best" scores or IELTS One Skill Retake. If you took the TOEFL iBT or IELTS, please send us your result from the test wherein you received the highest composite score.

Additional exams may be added at a later time. Please refer to our English Language policy before applying and/or taking any exams to ensure your test scores will satisfy our application requirements.

For the Duolingo English Test, please follow the instructions outlined in Duolingo's "How do I send my Duolingo English Test results to institutions?" documentation to send your score to NYU for free.

Please note that these scores are the minimum University requirements. It is your responsibility to know your program's English proficiency requirements before you apply, as some programs may require higher scores.

The University of Minnesota Twin Cities does not consider MyBest Scores: Sum of Highest Section Scores of the TOEFL iBT Score Report to meet the minimum total score requirement for admission. Applicants should self-report their highest Total Score from the one test date in the Application for Admission. Applicants should also submit the official TOEFL iBT scores via ETS.

Please allow 4-6 weeks for scores to be sent and matched to your application. If you have already submitted an application, check your application status to find out if we have received your official TOEFL scores.

Please note that these scores are the minimum University requirements. It is your responsibility to know your program's English proficiency requirements before you apply, as some programs may require higher scores.

Please note that these scores are the minimum University requirements. Check with your graduate program of interest to determine if they have additional English proficiency requirements.

Along with these minimal requirements, admission decisions are based on a number of factors, including academic degrees and record, written statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, test scores, and relevant work and research experience. All admission recommendations are made by each individual program or department.

When you register for any tests, you should indicate the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Graduate School (institution #5816) as a score recipient. If you did not specify the UNC-Chapel Hill Graduate School as a score recipient at the time of taking the test, you must promptly ask ETS to send your scores to us (institution #5816). No departmental code is required.

Please note: If you submitted your official test scores to UNC-CH with your application, expect a minimum of seven business days for your test scores to be matched to your application.

If you have taken, or plan to take, an official test more than one time and wish for additional scores to be available as part of your application review, you must request that each set of official scores be sent to the University. All valid, official test scores that have been sent to the University will be available as part of the application review process.

If you already hold, or are in the process of earning, a research or professional doctorate degree, you may be exempted from the standardized test score requirement. This waiver request must come to The Graduate School directly from the academic program to which you are applying. An unofficial transcript showing degree awarded, or degree in progress, will be required for final approval of this exemption by The Graduate School. Please contact your intended academic program to determine if they will support this exemption.

It is your responsibility to monitor your application for completeness by logging into your application and checking your application status. If your official test scores do not appear as received within two weeks of submitting your application, please email gradadmissions@unc.edu.

Together with the instructions above, international applicants are also required to submit official TOEFL or IELTS scores as part of their application. The Graduate School understands it is difficult and sometimes confusing to apply to universities in another country, and we will assist you in clarifying requirements whenever possible.

All international applicants must submit acceptable, official TOEFL scores (reported directly to school code #5816 from ETS.org) or IELTS scores (reported directly from IELTS.org, either by mail or electronically to The Graduate School). We do not accept TOEFL MyBest scores, Duolingo, or other English language proficiency tests.

When you register for any tests, you should indicate the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Graduate School as a score recipient. If you did not specify the UNC-Chapel Hill Graduate School as a score recipient at the time of taking the test, you must promptly ask to send your scores to us. While self-reported scores are useful for informal evaluation, the official report of your scores must arrive before final review and admission can be offered.

Once I gave it a low-scoring task and asked it to give me an estimated band score based on the IELTS writing scoring criteria. It gave the task 7!!! The task was about why some people move abroad after retirement. The writer had discussed why retired people travel. I asked if it thought the writer had covered everything, and it said yes, followed by a paragraph of reasons. I then asked, do you think move and travel are the same thing? It said no, move means to relocate and live somewhere else, but travel means... I asked, so based on this, do you still think the writer has covered the requirements? It said, no the writer has not covered the requirements.

GSAS accepts the computer-based GRE, TOEFL and IELTS exams. We accept the GRE General Test at Home, the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition, and the IELTS Indicator online test. Official test scores are delivered faster if you take the computer or internet tests. IELTS test takers should take the academic version.

We require that official test scores be sent to us directly from the GRE, TOEFL or IELTS program. We will not accept any scores sent by email attachment. We are not able to obtain test scores from any other school or program at NYU.

If you sent official test scores to GSAS school code 2596 (and, in the case of TOEFL, to a department code other than 00), they will always remain on file. We will add them to your current application after it is submitted.

You can request that your test scores be sent to GSAS after taking the test. For the GRE and TOEFL, sign into your account and order additional score reports. For IELTS, contact your test center directly and request that your test scores be sent electronically to New York University, Graduate School of Arts and Science, New York, NY.

If you take the GRE or TOEFL/IELTS more than one time and send the official test scores to GSAS, we will forward all of your test scores, including My Best Score, to the department. We do not remove previously submitted scores from applications.

If you have not submitted your application, we are not able to tell you if we have received test scores on your behalf. Once you apply, you will be able to see your Application Checklist, which shows you the status of various parts of your application. At first, the Checklist will show that we do not have your test scores. This is normal. Scores sent at least seven (7) days before application submission are displayed on the Checklist in about three (3) business days. 2351a5e196
