IELTS Life Skills is a UK government-approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) that assesses only your English speaking and listening skills. This is the test to take if you are applying for the following types of UK visa:

Multiple choice questions are used to test a wide range of skills. You may be required to have a detailed understanding of specific points or an overall understanding of the main points of the listening text.

Matching assesses the skill of listening for detail and whether you can understand information given in a conversation on an everyday topic, such as identifying different types of hotel or guest house accommodation. It also assesses your ability to follow a conversation between two people. It may also be used to assess your ability to recognise relationships and connections between facts in the listening text.

In the short-answer question type, you are required to read a question and then write a short answer using information from the listening text. Sometimes test takers are given a question which asks them to list two or three points.

In this type of question, you have to read sentences that summarise important information from either all of the listening text or from one part of it. You have to fill in a gap in each sentence using information from the recording.

IELTS Listening is divided into four sections, with 10 questions in each section. The test takes around 30 minutes to complete, with each section getting increasingly more difficult. You will have 10 minutes at the end of the listening test to transfer your answers to the answer sheet.

Q: Will I have the question paper in front of me while listening?

A: If you are doing paper-based IELTS, then yes. First, listen carefully and note down the answers quickly in the appropriate slot. You will then be given time to write your final answers more clearly on the answer paper, at the end of each recording. If you are doing computer-delivered IELTS, then you will see the questions on the screen and answer them as you listen.

There are 4 section of listening part. How many time shall we listen these audios? Especially, last section of the listening is harder than the first section (for example). Do we listen them just one time? Or is there any chance to listen to the last section twice?

If you are taking the IELTS listening practice test offline then you have to download the question paper as well as the blank answer sheet before taking the test. You can write the answers on the question paper using a pencil while listening to the audios played.

Matching QuestionsIn the matching tasks for IELTS listening, you are required to match a numbered list of items from the listening audio to a set of options from the question paper. You are marked on your ability to identify and understand the relevant information from a conversation on an everyday topic.Diagram/Plan/Map LabelingIn this category of IELTS listening tasks, you will be shown an image of a map, a diagram, or a plan from which certain graphical elements will be omitted. You are required to complete the image by filling in the missing details and information. Typically, there is a set of options given, and you are supposed to choose the answers from the given list.

Summary/Note/Table/Form/Flow-Chart CompletionIn this task, you are given the outline of the listening audio. The outline focuses on the main ideas or features of the audio and you are required to fill in the gaps in the given outline. The outline may be in the form of:

Sentence CompletionIn this task for the listening section, you are given a set of sentences that summarize the key information from the listening audios. Important words or phrases from these given sentences are left out and you are required to fill in the gaps using the information from the listening audio. This task also has a strict word limit and you will receive a lesser score for writing more than the stated number of words.

Short-answer QuestionsThe short-answer questions in the IELTS listening test require you to read and answer a short question based on the information that is given in the listening audio. In this task, you are not given a list of possible answers, rather you have to create your own responses. This task also features a word limit that needs to be strictly followed. 2351a5e196
