Salmon, Idaho
Wayne Talmadge Idaho District 31 Seat B
What do you hope to accomplish if elected?
Fair, common sense policies, laws and budgets are what will keep this state growing and profitable. Every district has its own issues and there is no "...one size fits all..." solution to this states issues. Broadband access and affordable housing are my passions. Finding solutions to those issues and hearing the issues facing our district are my priorities.
What experience has prepared you for this office?
Managing a business development center, creating and maintaining a profitable budget and assisting in creating business development projects has enhanced the importance of working with public and private agencies to bring multiple projects to fruition. I have worked with the City of Salmon to enhance the downtown area as well as improving access to the Salmon River. I represented Lemhi County to improve infrastructure and access for a statewide broadband initiative. Currently working with City of Salmon Planning and Zoning Committee.
What do you see as the most significant challenges Idaho faces that you might be able to address in this position?
1 - Wildfires are becoming a big issue with every passing season. Finding affordable and common sense mitigation has got to be addressed. These fires cause havoc on one of Idaho's biggest attractions, our forests and river corridors.
2 - In this new world of misinformation and attacks on our freedoms we need to keep a vigilant eye on those on the fringes that would usurp our democracy. This is not a scare tactic, this is reality that grows more evident with every election cycle.
3 - Affordable housing for those just entering the market and the elderly that are finding it hard to stay in their own homes.
4 - With the rising costs of health care and medical services how are we going to be able to take care of our families and love ones?
Is there anything else you wish to tell the voters?
There is no perfect candidate that will represent our district in the state legislature. Whether Democrat or Republican there has to be mediocrity when it comes to values for ALL the people. As I stated above, common sense legislation that makes sense to most of the peoples in Idaho is what needs to happen. There is no room for wild extremism and proposing solutions to problems that don't exist. Misinformation it a huge problem and it is each and everyone of our responsibilities to find the truth. Not just what supports our political view but what are the substantiating facts.

1. What do you hope to accomplish if elected?
I hope to add a voice for the little people in Idaho. We are an independent people if we are given the resources to create good lives. Yeah, we like to kick back, but idahoans aren’t lazy and we don’t need to make laws as if everyone is a loser. We all share in the resources of this state and should share in the quality of life that brings. I will always advocate for good education, quality health, sustainable jobs, setting an atmosphere of resiliency and embracing a technical future in a way that enhances lives.
2. What experience has prepared you for this office?
I am a great researcher and can go deep into issues to understand the complexities involved. I am rarely confused by rhetoric and marketing.
3. What do you see as the most significant challenges Idaho faces that you might be able to address in this position?
* Education is key to the future of Idaho. This means great, affordable daycare for kids, on up to easy access to ongoing education.
* We are facing severe future drought conditions, water shortages and ongoing fires as climate change heats up. Along with mitigating current conditions we can continue to invest in sustainable energy throughout the state.
* It’s time to legalize marijuana to bring revenue to the state, provide a drought resistant crop for Idaho farmers, and reduce unnecessary prison populations.
We need to fix our crazy meat packing laws. We all like local food and are smart enough to find a way for local beef growers to safely sell their product at home.
Mostly we need to hear new voices in our political debate and have more fun with each other. Nothing is a disaster here in Idaho as long as we continue to care for each other.
4. Is there anything else you wish to tell the voters?
If we are truly rebels here in Idaho then we need to vote out all the old grouches from our government. Politicians get in office and then park there. Let’s say no to that from now on.
