2nd International Conference Mohand Moussaoui
on Applied Mathematics and Modeling.
(Previously known as " 9th International Workshop On Applied Mathematics and Modeling.")
December 15-16, 2025
Hybrid: first day in person, second online.
In Tribute to Professor Mohand Moussaoui (1947–2023)
Born in Béjaïa on January 12, 1947, Professor Mohand Moussaoui was a renowned mathematician specializing in partial differential equations, particularly in the study of regularity and singularities in domains with corners — a field in which he was a pioneer under the guidance of Pierre Grisvard. After earning his third-cycle doctorate in Algiers in 1973, he completed his state doctorate in Nice by 1977. Upon returning to Algeria, he joined the Institute of Mathematics at USTHB, where he served as professor until 1992.
Professor Moussaoui was not only a brilliant academic but also a generous and selfless mentor. He played a pivotal role in the development of higher education in Algeria. He voluntarily gave lectures to the very first cohort of Magister students in Constantine, helping shape a new generation of mathematicians. He was also the one who proposed the creation of a national doctoral school in mathematics, an idea that led to the establishment of structured research training across the country.
His international career took him to France, where he held positions as invited professor at the University of Bordeaux, maître de conférences at ENS Lyon, and later professor and laboratory director at École Centrale de Lyon. His leadership and dedication left a lasting impact on all who worked with him.
After retiring, he returned to Algeria and joined the PDE Laboratory at ENS Kouba, where he continued to share his time, expertise, and passion with young researchers — always without hesitation or reserve. He was known for his humility, his deep sense of national responsibility, and his unwavering support for PhD students across Algeria.
He was also a frequent guest of the LMAM laboratory in Guelma, where he delivered many insightful lectures and warmly offered his experience and guidance. He never withheld knowledge and was admired for his sincerity, generosity, and humility.
