Delicious and refreshing, nothing is as good as iced coffee on a hot summer day. It’s made with just 4 ingredients (coffee, ice, simple syrup, and half & half).
The best way to sweeten iced coffee is with simple syrup, which is liquid sugar (half water and half sugar). Add flavoring like vanilla and cinnamon and you’ve got flavored simple syrups. This is how Starbucks flavors their hot and cold beverages.
Iced coffee is made by brewing hot coffee, then cooling it down in the refrigerator or freezer. It’s a little different from cold brew coffee, which is made by steeping ground coffee in cold water for hours.
Ingredients:
1 cup coarsely ground coffee beans
4 cups cold filtered water
Optional: milk and sweetener of your choice
Instruction:
Combine the coffee grounds and cold water in a large jar or pitcher.
Stir the mixture until all the coffee grounds are fully saturated with water.
Cover the jar or pitcher and let it sit at room temperature for at least 12 hours (or up to 24 hours) to brew.
After brewing, strain the coffee through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into another container, removing all the coffee grounds.
If desired, dilute the concentrate with water to taste. You can also add milk and sweetener to taste.
Serve over ice and enjoy!
Note: Cold Brew Coffee is a great way to make coffee in advance, as it keeps well in the refrigerator for up to one week.
