Kathy is a recently retired 35-year veteran adapted physical educator for the Cooperative Association for Special Education, in Glen Ellyn, Il. She is a frequent presenter at the national, state and local level in the areas of evidence-based practices for students with autism, multiple disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and physical disabilities. Additionally she is a frequent speaker and advisor to the Illinois State Board of Education on the Brockport Physical Fitness Test. Kathy just completed her doctorate degree at Illinois State University with a specialized research interest in the area of evidence-based practices for persons with autism in a physical activity setting. As former head coach for Team USA, she oversaw the United States Boccia Paralympic team for athletes with spinal cord injuries and cerebral palsy. She is a wife to an awesome retired special educator who supports her in every way, mother to two wonderful adult men with Down Syndrome, and proud mother of a daughter who is finishing her BCBA and is an outstanding educator and parent cheerleader for students with autism ages 3-5. Kathy’s plans for the near future are to finish research in the area of video modeling and begin to publish her research. She will be speaking this fall at ICEC, California Adapted Physical Education Conference, CEC and IDADD in Maui in January (her retirement trip!! in addition to working a little). She is very excited to help organize the Adapted Physical Education Conference this fall on Friday November 16th at the IAHPERD Conference. It has been a dream of hers to provide an exceptional quality all day workshop specifically for adapted physical educators.
